Hey all,
Downloaded this game yesterday, was getting the DirectX DDERR GENERIC error when starting the game up. Using Windows 7 64 bit home premium on an ASUS G73JH gaming laptop.
Here is the solution:
Follow all instructions according to GOG.com such as:
Downloading June 2010 Direct X (link through gog support)
Compatibility mode settings (usually set up automaticaly from the gog installers)
Use the system file checker (type SFC /scannow in the search box from windows 7 start button)
NOW!
To the problem solver:
-Download the SWAT 3 Xvid video replacement from http://www.mariachimaestro.com/NewSwat3Reunited/download.php?view.24 and extract them to the SWAT 3 folder with all the .avi files.
-Make sure you have the XVid codec installed and if you do not then go to http://www.xvid.org and download the free codec on the site and install.
No restarts are required to solve this problem, all solutions I found on the internet solved nothing until I preformed these two steps, I hope this helps out anyone who may have had the same problem and I'd like to suggest GOG to use these xvid versions of the videos instead of the originals as they use the out of date Indeo codec (which for some reason never work on my computer).
Thank you and happy gaming.
P.S. I hope I have not broken the TOS by posting these links, as far as I am concerned those video files can be distributed, if not then I apologize but this was the only thing that worked for me.
