BKGaming: Um, GOG has a immediate patching system via Galaxy. If the devs have not uploaded the patches to Galaxy then there is nothing GOG can do about it. Offline installers will always lag behind though because GOG has manually prepare them, but they can only do that after devs submit the patches to Galaxy and / or GOG.

Here is the dev portal where devs can upload patches: https://devportal.gog.com/welcome

Some devs still don't use it though and send patches the old way to GOG... which is slow and takes a lot longer because GOG has to get them ready.
If this is true then it would be nice to get some official information about the process going forward. However, I don't quite see why Paradox wouldn't take advantage of it if it's as simple as you say. Perhaps having a developer account approved isn't entirely straightforward. Still it gives some hope that this problem will soon be fixed.

Awaras:
There are also Games on GOG that get Patches after two Years, with the Steam-Version receiving five Patches over Time. But that's up to the developers, not GOG, because GOG does not get the Patches. Other Games will be Patched.

can someone talk me through the refund process. I am done with this. Mod situation is stupid, patches not getting out. Support does not bother answering even after 9 days.

I just want my money back and spend it on a patched and modable version on steam.

I've only asked for one refund which was for a game that wouldn't work on my PC. To do that I went through Technical Support and got the refund when it was clear it wasn't going to work.

All I can find is https://support.gog.com/hc/en-us/requests/new as a possible route to a refund.
The patch is only available since 22.03. and GOG needs a few days. GOG also does not work at the weekend. I'm sure the patch for GOG version will be released next week.

Since the patch from 22.03, there were already two another, smaller patches (the first being released on launch day), and those aren't also supplied to GOG version of the game. So I'm not hoping that suddenly we will got all three of them during next week.

It's really sad.

Three updates have been released on Steam so far. None on GoG.
As was mentioned, GOG can only patch what they have.

The situation of no updates to Surviving Mars also happens with Paradox's own launcher, which uses a third version of game (being Steam and GOG the other two).
The Surviving Mars version served from the Paradox Launcher is also the initial release.

So as far as I can tell, the issue is not with GOG (distributor) or even with Paradox Publishing (publisher) but with Haemimont (developer).

But what's strange is that neither GoG nor Paradox have said anything about this. No eta, no explanation, no reassurance, nothing. Whether or not either of them is at fault for the delay, both of them are at fault for lack of communication.
Would be good to get an official answer from a GOG support person.

RalfBlunden: ... both of them are at fault for lack of communication.
From GOG one is used to the fact that their communication to their customers is modest. And as I said before, some games get patches after 2 years, if there are 5 patches on Steam at this time. I'm still waiting with the purchase of Surviving Mars (SM).

When the update does arrive, how will we go about updating the app? I haven't had to update any of m y GOG apps yet, so if the game doesn't have an internal update method and I'm not using Galaxy, will there just be an update installer?

Yup, an installer will appear on your game download page.
I dug up some info on the lack of patches so far https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/index.php?threads/when-will-the-gog-client-receive-updates.1083151/

I mean, it does reference THIS thread but also

"This is from a GoG representative in response to a support ticket I raised:

I apologise for the delay with Surviving Mars updates, we are currently working with the developer on improving their delivery on GOG."
