The image is missing but I think it's about buildings getting damaged by marsquakes? They're caused by increasing the magnetic field of the planet. You'll get used to them.

Nope, Sorry about the missing image ... it was about the strange black zigzaging marks on the sol that you cannot remove with the terraforming tools and that have sometimes some kind of black eruptions that will destroy anything on top of them. You cannot build on it, or do anyting about them except avoid them.

In the beginning I assumed they can be used for thermal power production or the like.
So far turned out to be only decorative terrain (but I might be wrong at that).

They are high dust production / high maintenance nearby obstacles. The terrain they cover cannot be landscaped, and is an obstacle to landscaping and any building. They do often have research loci nearby, and occasionally vistas.
