Has anyone encountered problems with the character models? They are all glitched up and making it impossible for me to use my inventory. I can see the character status screen, with the picture of the character of course all messed up. I've been trying to use different settings but can't seem to come up with a setting that works. Here is what I see. The first is what I see when I open the inventory. The second you can tell is the character status screen, but the character portrait is messed up. Anyone encounter this and come up with a way to fix it? Is it anything to do with the intel HD graphics on my notebook I'm trying to play it on?

Oh dear that possibly doesn't look good (scrn1 shot),

Last time I seen something similar to that the memory on my graphics card was damaged and the card needed replacing. First off I would try running a few other games to see if the same thing happens to them, play for a good 20 mins or so on each to give things a chance to show anomalies.


Few things to try first off :

Add the splash and screen startup and main file to DEP (Windows Vista, 7 & 8)

Start > Control Panel > System > Advanced System Settings (Top left side of screen)

Window will pop up and will show Advanced tab at top, now click settings beside the bit that says performance

Next Window click Data Execution Prevention tab

Click button for turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select (This will allow you to add files).

Click Add at bottom and navigate to your installed directory and select Sum.exe, do it again and this time select Summoner.exe and after both these files are in the window click Apply at bottom.

Now try running the game again.



In the setup on splash screen after detecting your video card try both 3DFX Glide and D3D

Re install Direct X

Re install your graphics driver after cleaning with Driver Fusion (Uninstall driver, then clean, then restart and re install)

Make sure to install in root directory (ie : D:\Summoner) and run setup as administrator, you could also try setting the Sum.exe and Summoner.exe to run as Administrator once installed.

Temporarily disable the ASUS update software

Then uninstall the current driver and use driver fusion to remove the remnants that get left behind.

Then try and install the newest driver after restart or let Windows Update install it

None of this is working. The Driver Fusion DID say that I would need to buy the premium version to remove some remaining files, but I have no intentions of buying a $15 program just so I can use it to try to play a $5 game that I had went through before on the PS2. If it can't be a simple free fix I'll just use a different PC. But I do plan to look into as to why the only drivers that seem to work are the ones from ASUS. How in the world could my computer not meet the requirements for the hardware it was shipped with from the factory. Just another reason why XP is still my favorite windows so far. Although this is the first issue I've ran into with 8.1. Maybe I'll just try running it with XP compatibility. lol

Found a "sort" of solution. Maybe it would help figure out something else? On the setup in the video settings. My video mode is "Direct 3D Intel HD Graphics". Well under that where it says "detect glide" "detect direct3d" and "use d3d optimizations", if I uncheck the "use d3d optimizations" and then run the game, it runs perfectly. However, when I close the game and reopen, the "use d3d optimizations" is always rechecked again. After doing some testing, it's the "Use D3D Optimizations" that is causing the problem for sure. Any idea with this? If I uncheck that, it works perfectly, but for some reason it always rechecks itself after closing the game

That worked like charm. I just replaced the exe file on my desktop to bypass the launcher. Thanks

I just want to add that you need to run the launcher first and apply the setting with the box unchecked first. The launcher does *not* remember what you had checked before the next time you run it, but sum.exe apparently does remember. It's a mildly annoying defect that you only have to deal with once and for all.

(I was kind of curious about this game back when it was new, and I got it on the Summer sale for $1.50 or whatever. Yay gog, yay forums.)

I had the same issue seem to work by clicking that box must be a intel graphic's driver issue
