Just bought this gem but have some Problems with the Free build mode.

After creating my castle etc... I start an Invasion via F1. The army is coming BUT isn't attacking. They are just standing around the signpost and do nothing.

What am I missing?

If you wait a little while, they will attack. My best guess is that the developers wanted to give you a few moments to move your defending units around (since there are multiple signposts they can come from), but unfortunately this means that when they appear within archer range they'll just sit there looking dumb while you slaughter them.

I strongly advise to build your castle a distance away from the signposts if you want to have a decent fight in castle-builder mode.
