It would appear that UAC (User Account Control) is taking its time scanning the files in question before letting the installer do its job.

Try disabling UAC by going here:

http://www.gog.com/en/support/support_view/Disabling_User_Acount_control_on_Windows_Vista_and_7.
Hello,

Looked at the suggested fix and my user settings already seem to be set to "Never Notify".

I have attempted to install some of my other games from the site and they seem to be ok.
Seems to be a crusader only issue. :-(

Before I ask you to write to our Support department about this, may I ask you a couple of questions first?

Are you running the installer as Administrator?

Do you have any anti-virus scanners running in the background such as AVG, Avast!, Norton Security Essentials, etc. etc.?
Hey,

Yeah after reading a few of the other articles i made sure that i disabled my norton security and anti virus along with trying to run whilst under adminstrator. I ever tried to run on some of the compatibility mode settings.

Unfortunately no luck.

Hmmm OK. Please do write to our Support team and make sure to include a DxDiag with your email and we'll see if we can't get this sorted out for you ASAP.

Are these working games all based on the old installer (file version 1.x.x.x), or is any based on the new one (2.x.x.x)?
After the icon appears on the task bar, does anything happen - does it stay there or does it disappear after some time? Do you get any error message?
Have you ever used any of the GOG patches, and if yes - did they work?
Hey guys thanks for the reponses.

The installs are based on the most up to date installer.

The icon appears in the task bar and does a quick flash and then stays there. Note when I look in the task manager it has "not reponding" next to it. However no other errors pop up and it doesnt disappear from the task bar.

And no never used the GOG patces.

Could you post the full file names of those installers that experience this issue?
Seems to only be: setup_stronghold_crusader_extreme_hd_2.0.0.6 all others seem to be fine
Hey guys,

Support have managed to find a work around for me.

Solution was: Changing the shortcut to the installer, by going into the shortcut's properties and, in the Target field, after the last quotation mark, insert a [spacebar]/nogui

For instance:
Target: "C:\setup_stronghold_crusader_extreme_hd_2.0.0.6.exe" /nogui

Worked a treat.

Thank you all for your help!!!

Pete
Yeah it was the UAC scan for me. It must have taken a good 15 minutes before I finally got the prompt to give it permission. I'm running a 2.4 ghz core2quad processor with 4 gb of DD3 RAM. I've never had a problem with other gog.com games either. Oh well, at least it ultimately got it installed.
