It's not a big issue but quite a problem for non experienced players.

When I launch Stronghold Crusader Gog launches Crusader Extreme instead.

You start by the highest difficulty setting without traditionnal campaign.

Is there a way to modify manually the shortcut Gog is using in my library ?

(For now, I open the shortcut in Stronghold folder)

Thanks for reading !

Yeah, it's a bit stupid, but GOG only gives you desktop shortcuts and default Galaxy settings that only run Extreme. To play vanilla Crusader, you can create a shortcut to "Stronghold Crusader.exe" on your desktop, or, if you're using Galaxy, go to More -> Other -> Stronghold Crusader HD.
Yes in the past you could modify and xml file but it doens't work anymore I think.
GOG still hasn't changed this which annoys me quite a lot because the Extreme version is a total different game and not an upgrade or DLC. It's just a different game on it's own... even worse it's by far not as fun as the original in my opinion.

True dat. If only one of the two executables has to be run, it should definitely be vanilla Crusader. Having Extreme in the bundle is only good for completion's sake (even though its release in 2008 was a mistake in the first place).
Sorry late repply. Your solutions worked. Feels weird but it works.

Thanks guys !

N.B: Yeah Extreme is not really good in my own opinion.

Glad we could help and that we agree about the Extreme edition. :)

I really hope some GOG mods read this and talk internally about either changing the executable or just splitting the games as they're two completely different games.
I knew Crusader was supposed to be a bit more difficulty but this seemed a little extreme. Now that I found the actual game, the campaign is almost a bit too easy, lol.
