Hi all,

I have a Thrustmaster X, USB joystick. The game will not let me proceed with joystick calibration at all.

I've gone into DOSbox remapper, and was able to configure buttons and axes, so DOSbox appears to recognize it with no issue. I've set the joystick type in config to fcs and back to auto. Also, I made sure timing = false.

I'm still unable to play the game; any suggestions?

Do you have other controllers plugged in?

I did at one point, a gamepad. I had disconnected it and tried again, then i disconnected the joystick, and I'm still stuck on the calibration screen.

I seem to recall that a couple of Origin games have issues with joysticks. I know I still have my original joya.dat for Privateer somewhere.

The first link is a post on the dosbox forum (vogons) .

Is your joystick recognised in the windows gamecontrollerpanel, do the axes and buttons work?
Also check in advaced if it is the first controller it detects.

Yes the joystick is perfect with other games, but your 2nd post gave me an idea. It turns out I had to manually disable the gamepad in the control panel, even with it disconnected, in order for SC to recognize the joystick.

I haven't had a chance to fly a mission yet, but I was at least able to see the intros and talk to people before heading out.

Does changing the 'timed' setting under [joystick] in the DOSBox configuration make a difference? That did the trick for my joystick.

In my original post, I indicated timing = false.

OK, looks like isolating the joystick as the one and only controller on Control Panel did the trick!

Now...if I can just get that finicky Vulcan pipper to behave the way I want it to, lol.

My stick calibrates just fine in game, but it ONLY works for looking around, I cannot fly the plane with it.

Edit: Answered my own question, the Alt-O option screen is only able to be accessed in-flight, been a while since I have played Strike Commander. lol

You could try editing the .conf file:
