I was rather excited to see SF alpha 2 on here, I am a long time fan of the SF series and have never gotten the chance to play Alpha 2 or any of the alphas.

However, upon starting up the game, I was delighted to find that the game supported my Xbox360 controller, however the controls were severely borked. No use of the left trigger whatsoever, let alone for fierce kick. Ouch. Oh... oh..kayyy. I'll make fierce kick the start button even though that goes against everything I think street fighter controls should be in the universe. Yeah, I could get used to that, maybe.

However, the stick, literally the only way to move the character, LITERALLY WITHOUT ANY WAY TO CHANGE IT... Is also the start button. And it is HYPER sensitive so it CONSTANTLY pauses whenever I try to move my character with any of the extremely precise, bullet timing street fighter games requires. Okay.

Alright, I'll try the keyboard then. Yeah, uhhh, I mean, i used to play some flash games on the internet that mimiced street fighter and other similar games way back when on the internet.

But no. Literally not a single button on my keyboard does literally ANYTHING, let alone allows me to set the controls. I mean... you're kidding me right? Please tell me you're kidding me?

This is literally unplayable.

Same issue here, my father visited for x-mas, and I wanted to show him some good old games. Press to starts? Wtf?

Ok I think I figured out what does what for player1 and player2, there is a Key Config on options, but not sure how to enter into this menu. Let me me know if you want to know the bindings on keyboard. I would need to go and note them, cause they are crazy as shit!

For me, literally the only buttons that do ANYTHING on the Keyboard are the esc key, and whichever one of the F- buttons you press to confirm you want to leave the game. I saw bindings in the game's control config menu(I had to use the controller just to even navigate to it) and none of those buttons do anything at all, either in the menu or in gameplay.

This port is BAD. WAY bad.

Yeah it seems intermittend. Sometimes I launch the game and the Enter key works, other times when I launch, it is exactly like you mentioned above. Not sure what the cause might be, I tried Alt + Tabbing in and out of the game, but no luck. Anyways, yeah I guess I'll have to get my "nostalgic kicks" somewhere else. Haha
I'm on Ubuntu Mate 18.04. I am using a set of Logitech F310 mostly but I also use a set Hori RAP4 KAI fighting sticks. When the game first runs, I have to set my F310 into Xinput mode via of the underside button and that works as is with the game already setup. If I set it to Dinput then I have to configure it. The fightsticks are ready to go without need of configuration. This causes me to use the keyboard at first in which Enter is the start key. F9 is the exit key which bring up a prompt. Going into options I can configure the pad or keyboard however I want.

Then you have to back up your changes into the Backup section.

Hope this helps.
Try the "General Troubleshooting" page ("Control Issues") for SFA2 on GOG's official website.

The page has many suggestions on how to fix this problem.

From the page, what worked for me was going to "Manage Installation", then "Show Folder", then right-click "Launch Street Fighter Alpha 2", then select "RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR".

I was then able to use ENTER as the Start button, go to options and change the keyboard settings, and then it worked!

Please note that I disabled my laptop's touchpad. My laptop uses Windows 10 and GOG Galaxy app.

: )

You might need to do it each time you play SFA2 again.

I hope this helps.
