vonHardenberg: I dislike using Steam. I dislike it even more when I buy something, then get no updates on my platform of choice. How effing hard can it be to upload an obviously existing build to GoG?

4-vektor: It’s really infuriating. Strafe already has the 3rd patch today on Steam. I’m wondering where the GOG patch is. Wasn’t it every other version that we were supposed to get on GOG? So, where’s our patch?

Edit: This is what @STRAFEgame tweeted back to my question about where the patch for us is.

Patch with steam patches 1 & 2 was sent to GoG 2 days ago.
1:14 PM - 15 May 2017

Dear GOG, would you please so kind and provide us peasants (aka your customers) with the patch for STRAFE?
This user's son speaking.

To be fair, the GOG staff have other games besides this one to attend to, so personally I think we should just be patient...for a while.

Yes, it is a pain in the ass that it takes us longer to get stuff...but sadly that is the way we will have to slog until the great Steam Empire falls.

That being said, unless GOG is just busy with other games and problems at the moment I hope that the patch didn't get 'lost in the mail' so to speak.

Personally I'm probably just going to wait until more than just this patch combo comes out before I resume playing so hopefully more bugs are fixed...then again...*gets withdrawal shakes*

In all seriousness, Steam has a lot more games to attend to, and they manage to provide users with updates, and they manage to provide game developers with ways to provide their user base with the updated content quickly.

I’m all for patience, especially if it’s about maintaining all these good old games, which GOG does all by themselves. But a brand new game that already has 3 patches after a few days, patches that are provided by a 3rd party and thus aren’t really maintained by GOG for the time being, should be prioritized. And I think it’s fine to be a little annoyed about this.

I wouldn’t mind it so much if they would at least communicate with the users about it. Something along the lines of

“We are working hard to provide you with the latest patches but some unforeseen problems may cause a delay of probably 3 days. Thank you all for your patience.”

This would somewhat demonstrate that GOG actually recognizes they have customers and users. Customers and users who also know that the game is supported a lot better somewhere else at the moment.

Steam also has a lot more staff.

3rd party? The developer and/or publisher signs a deal with GOG. They give them games to host on GOG. Patches too. If by maintained you mean makes them, well, obviously not, but they host them so...I'm not sure what you mean, lol. Remember that the Steam staff are not as actively having to heavily negotiate deals for games on their service like GOG has to because of Steam's primarily corporate popularity. Also Steam doesn't work on tweaking older games to work on modern systems as much as GOG does or has done. There are some exceptions, of course, but GOG has done A LOT for an outfit their size compared to, say, Steam.

The truth is that I understand where you and others are coming from with regards to GOG acknowledging us. This is coming from a person who has put up with ActiBlizzard and their intentional ignoring of their fan base in regards to properly balancing their game. Although that community on the Blizz forum can be very toxic. I don't think that is what GOG is doing though, and if there was a real problem or if more time had passed I'd agree that GOG should give us a heads up. Not that much time has passed though.

Complaining about legitimate problems is one thing, nor should we just be sheep that praise everything an organization we like does. We should complain about things that need to be changed. It is just that people have no patience to wait and see whether nothing gets done within reasonable time or if things get fixed in good time. Deadlines are not always met. Gamers tend to have this sense of entitlement when it comes to game service that makes them impatient...and then mob mentality sometimes starts to set in...it has always been there but the rise of services like Steam has only amplified it apparently. Supposedly the dev has sent GOG the patch but who knows? I'm sure some devs would get irritated if GOG mentioned to us that the dev in question is being...problematic.

I mean, it isn't like they can just say "Hey community, Pixel Titans are giving us some problems and we are having trouble getting that patch or two from them. We will try to get Strafe updated ASAP."

Next thing you know Pixel Titans wants to charge more royalties or pulls the game from GOG after angry gamers like Roman up above in the thread probably cussed them out. Most games get better income for their devs and publishers on Steam anyway by sheer volume of purchases if not economic arrangement. Not that Steam is devoid of angry gamers ranting about "Muh updoots" either, lol.

If GOG were to say what you suggested about "unforeseen problems" plenty of upset and impatient gamers would probably counter with "Unforeseen problems? Like what? How hard is it to get sent a patch and upload it on the site?" As dumb as that is, because technology and business you know. Works wonders eh?

Personally I see Strafe as more of a 'play when bored or the mood strikes' game that won't hold your attention as long as others anyway, but you get the itch to play. I really want to play Everspace when it gets out of dev and Elex when released...both coming to GOG.

Basically, there is no reason to sharpen the pitchforks...yet.

But then...who gets the pointy end? GOG? Pixel Titans? Devolver Digital?

To clarify something though, I'm not ranting at you specifically. Just responding to you while posting this up for all to see.

Now if GOG ever tries to force Galaxy on us in the fashion of Steam...RAAAAAAAAGE! ☄️

Addition: I remember complaining on the Ashes of the Singularity forum of GOG about them not properly specifying which version of the game the DLC was for in the first place back before it was given to the Escalation owners. I did so politely though.

Yes, let's support Steam instead of GOG so that we can all enjoy that wonderful DRM and lack of freedom to play the games we bought while having to manage a game distribution program. /S

It isn't like Strafe is the only game in existence...I'm playing other games and doing other stuff in the meantime while waiting.

Personally I don't think Pixel Titans ever really sent the patch to GOG and are stalling for some reason. At least we might get 4 patches combined in 2 out of this for double the bug fixes if enough time passes. Honestly isn't that better anyway given that if the first patches don't fix enough people will STILL be complaining?

It is, but honestly I'm use to it with most games really.

Someone contacted gog about this?

Is this grounds for getting a refund? I'd like my money back as well, if it's possible.

Learnt my lesson not to buy games that are still apparently in development through gog. Not much fun being stuck with a buggy game while everyone else is getting frequent patches.
Well I've opened a ticket with GOG, maybe this way we can get some info about what the hell is going on.

Pretty annoyed over not choosing the Steam version at this point which is really not something I had ever wanted to say in my life.
Really disappointed in GOGs patching process as well. I personally requested a refund. Still will use GOG for any older games but i feel like i've learned my lesson for games still 'in progress'.

Yeah, and what’s even weirder is the name change from Version 1.02 to PATCH 3. I dowonloaded PATCH 3 and the files I get are just the same as 1.02:

setup_strafe_vv-1n_weapon_pre_order_exclusive_1.02_(12037).exe
setup_strafe_1.02_(12037).exe
setup_strafe_1.02_(12037)-1.bin

I don’t get this weird renaming scheme. What is this good for?
Post edited May 16, 2017 by 4-vektor
That is indeed very weird, easy way to check if it is actually patch 3 would be to check the max FOV, which does indeed go to 120 for me.
