Stonekeep was my first foray into RPG gaming and I won't enumerate what it did to me as I have so many other places on these boards, but I will say that it forever launched me into the RPG world of Gaming and I never have looked back since then...........
Nonetheless I was never ever able to replay this game no matter how many times I tried. I have the original game CD, manual and Box that I was lucky enough to find at a garage sale a ways back but no matter what I did I was never able to enjoy or rekindle the fun I had with Stonekeep as I could never get it to work in Windows XP, Vista 32bit and Vista 64bit. So I decide after seeing that so many here on these Boards are able to play, why not fork out the small $6.00 fee for DL and do a wait and see approach.........heck the worst that can happen is that it will not work for me......as I am already used to that.
Well I'll be damned....the game WORKED on my Vista 64bit Computer!!! Woot!!! Woot!!!
Now apart from some very small glitches in the graphics and sound, the game is exactly the same it was when I first played it over 13 years ago! I was almost having a Computer "Orgasm" I was so excited!!! After all this time my favorite and first RPG of all time was once again available for me to play!
Thanks so much GoG for making it so simple..................I launched it and played and played and played.........and all it took was install and launch, no DosBot config stuff, nothing, launch and I was ready to play and that was with Vista 64bit.
Thank you thank you and thank you once more...............
Now back to gaming................the old time way......!!

So you payed the GOG guys $6 to configure Dosbox for you?
Something that takes less than 2 minutes.
Shit, I would have done it for you for the asking.

Why are there always people on these forums that could have "fixed" the problem for you?
If only you'd known in advance that their assistance was available.
I'm sure they only do it to show off.
But as you say, it's a minimal outlay for something that now works satisfactorily.
Alternatively, you could have spent days pulling your hair out and screaming at the monitor watching DosBox winking malevolently at you!
However you've probably got better things to do - like playing the game!

Glad you're enjoying the game. While I have a physical copy and I have been able to use Dosbox on windows XP, I don't want to cart the CD around with me to different places my work sends me too. So I ended up purchasing the game again. It's also nice that they've re-released the boxed in reading material for the game.

As for when I first played this, I was visiting my dad after my parents separated, and here he was playing amazing game on his desktop. While I had seen first person games before, like Doom. And first person perspective dungeon crawlers such as Champions of Krynn and other Advanced D&D Dragonlance computer titles, I had never seen one with voice acting.

Later that week I got my chance to try and it was amazing. Between attempts at trying to enter and conquer the sewer, I would end up watching hours of Johnny Castaway. I never did manage to beat Stonekeep till five or so years later. I was just too young, and my ability to strategize and apply logic just wasn't developed enough yet.

But this game is a little jewel. Especially when you remember Jim Henson was involved. Bless that man.
