Slybo: Why are people so damn whiny?
GOG sells old PC games PERIOD. Games that cant run under current operating systems come with DosBox in order to make them 100% playable in their original form. Why is this so complicated and unreasonable for some people?
Getting access to the original code and rewriting these games for XP/VISTA is totally utterly completely unfeasible.
First of all getting a publisher to hand over their entire source archive a game would be a logistical nightmare.
Second of all, even
IF they did have access to the source code. Rewriting the code for over 30 DOS games to run under Windows would be unbelievably expensive and time consuming to the point that this site could never exist. And GOG certainly couldn't afford to sell those games for $5.99.
As if this all wasn't enough things would become doubly complicated, expensive, and time consuming if they where to "enhance" these games.
First of all, I'm not whining. I was simply asking a question. As it's presented on the site, one is led to believe that this is the case though with the "now compatible" statement. I'm just saying maybe they should be a little more up front about it on the front page. Obviously I don't really have a problem with dosbox or similar programs, as I said I already use them. Just a bit clearer on the advertising would be appropriate.
