Hey anyone,

So I have about 40+ hours into game, and finally decided to hire an extra crew member or two. I don't seem to be able to add the new member into the ground crew. For that matter, once removing an existing ground crew member, I can't even add them back to the ground crew again. Fortunately, I saved my gave before trying this, and after reloading, I still have all my original ground crew members on the ground team. I did a search, and haven't been able to come up with any solution. Is this a bug, or am I doing something wrong?

I tried doing this while "in space", on my ship, as directed to, but just can't seem to be able to swap in a new member to the Ground Crew of 4.

Thanks in advance...
Just to eliminate one obvious possibility, you obviously already know that the ground crew swap can only take place in space - but you are pressing the "J" key to pull up the crew manager, and dragging one of the names from the left side into an empty space in the upper half of the right side, correct? When you drag and drop, let go of the new character on the left hand side of the empty crew slot, where the character portrait would normally be (or on top of the face of the character you wish to replace if you're not filling an empty position). Your primary character doesn't need to be part of the ship's crew, but MUST be one of the ground crew.

When you try this, what exactly happens?

Hey Toccatta, Yeah, trying to swap members on the ground crew in space. In the Crew Manager (J), I can remove one of the other current members by clicking and dragging them from the right side to the left side, leaving a space blank (with the exception of my main character of course), and after having done this, I can't drag that same character back over, or any other new character either. I also find that I can't switch any of their positions either (F2 thru F4). If I drag all three of my addition ground crew members to the left, I can't return them, or anyone else back to my ground crew team, leaving me to Solo all missions from now on. The only way to restore my ground crew is to load a recent save before trying the swap.

I've tried swapping crew in different systems, but doesn't help. When I try to drag a team member from the left side to the right, I can see their portrait being dragged, but when releasing them on the right side does nothing...the portrait just "disappears", and they remain on the left, not loading onto the ground crew. Very odd...guessing it must be a bug? Not game breaking at all, but wanted to try a new member with some different weapon type stats, to use some different weapons on missions.

Maybe the dev will see the post, and have a suggestion. Thanks again for the reply!

I have a similar problem trying to change characters on my game, and I notice there's a very limited "sweet spot" when assigning NPCs to crew positions. To make it more clear, I attached an edited image of the crew roster showing where you should try it. If that doesn't help, then it may very well be a bug that the dev has to address.

In the attached image, if you drop the NPC anywhere in the red portion of the roster, it just ignores the attempt to assign someone to that spot in my game, just like you described. If you drop the NPC where I've marked in green, it actually accepts the new crewman. That isn't to say it's SUPPOSED to work that way, so it might still be a bug. But if it IS a bug, that should at least let you try new NPC until the dev can fix it.

If that doesn't work for you, then I'm out of ideas. Good luck.

Yes, you need to drag portraits from the left side of the screen to the portrait on the right side of the screen. I'll look into expanding the "drop" area.

Dragging from the right side to the left removes the crew member from the party. It won't replace the crew member in that slot if I remember correctly - if dragged over a portrait on the left.

You cannot replace your main character in the ground party.

Thanks Toccatta for posting the illustration.

Ok, thanks again Toccatta. Yup, looks like my bad. Kind of surprised myself, because i have been playing these kind of games for many, many years....guess you can put me in the "Old Farts" camp these days as well, lol.

You were right...I just really needed to be a bit more accurate in targeting my drop zone. When I went back and tried it again, this time the Crew Members portrait stuck in the slot on the right, successfully making the swap. I really needed to take a little more care targeting the right spot on the right hand side. All is good in the universe now :-D.

Sorry I didn't post this as a question to give you credit for the answer, but like most around here, I stopped caring about Rep a long time ago, before they even got rid of it. So take my heartfelt thanks at least!

And also want to say thanks to the Dev for taking the time to respond as well. Really enjoying your game so far, and looking forward to your continued updates. Keep up the great work!!
