At game start, it asks me to choose which of the two dlcs to use, implying that it CANNOT run both at the same time.
Is this true??? If so why????

I seriously expect every dlc to work together in the game, like most other games dlc do. o.O

Origin is not exactly a DLC, but a remake of the first SG in the second engine, as such is a completely different and separate part of the game and incorporating it in Secret of... would not be possible

Doing so would mean using events and map of SG2 in the story and event of SG...as logic suggest not doable

In short origin is pretty much the prequel with a few changes, nothing of the second game is applicable to it, different story arc, events, etc.

Of course modding will allow to import your advanced ship in origins, and in the same way i import things from origin to SG2 era, but you'll have to do it yourself, or use another modder resources that have or will, do the same

Hopefully it's clear, next mod should/will be compatible with Secret of...

Ah I see.
Thanks for explaining that! :-)
Carthis is right. Origins is actually a complete port of oiriginal Starpoint Gemini game, a massive 60-100+ hours DLC that , in timeline, happens in the past. That is the reason why you have to choose. It's not a DLC with one extra ship. It's a different story, same map but in different timeline, new (old) ships, factions... .

And I have to say, most other games don't release DLCs that have dozens of hours gameplay campaigns and give them for free. ;) I would like to find a free DLC that is bigger than Origins. Bragging? Well maybe, to be honest, but it was pretty time consuming to do this port and we felt that regardless of that fact, it would be unfair to double charge the original game through a DLC. People are pretty happy with it and I hope you guys will like it too. And the original has that B-movie charm. Made by 4 people (now there are 9 of us), it was even voiced over by 4 devs themselves since there was no budget for professional voiceovers. ;) As I said, B-movie charm. :D

Never read anything about what it was before.

Thanks. :-)
