I kind of hate to ask this, but would you be open to switching GOG versions for Steam ones?

Unfortunately, it's not up to us as developers.
It's up to publisher and they don't offer that possibility. And since GoG and Steam are not affiliated in any way, no luck there too. :(

Norarc: So... still no news about the latest patch getting released on GOG?

I can be patient as far as the DLC is concerned, but I'm getting a little irritated at the game randomly freezing on me, when I know there's already a fix implemented.

I've put in a support ticket to GOG (not trying to be a nuisance, just want some news on what's happening about this), but still haven't heard anything back.

Anyone else had any better luck?

micktiegs_8: No luck here. It's not the devs that are behind in this matter (I know you didn't say that but I'm just clarifying for you).

GOG staff have completely ignored me on all fronts when it comes to this game's lack of attention from them. I see plenty of updates happening with other titles. I'm sorry but the QA system is a joke in its current state and the more they hope to expand and bring in newer, frequently updated titles then the further they are going to fall behind.
I just received an email from GOG support saying that they're working on it (and softly implying that being patient and not constantly pestering them will make the work go faster, but given how annoying dealing with the public can be, I think I can let that one go ;) ). Apparently it's been giving them some grief to get it all lined up for implementation will GOG's copies of SG2. Don't know why, but there it is. So it should only be another day or two for the patch. Don't know anything about the DLC, I didn't ask, but one assumes if all the business contracts are lined up we could expect release of that shortly thereafter.

So... news! Sort of!

Thanks to GOG for the response, and apologies for being snarky in the support ticket.

I think I just needed my scheduled coffee. I'm sure that being snarky can easily be justified in this case anyway.
I have noticed that there is at least one functional difference between the GoG version and the Steam version: achievements in the Steam version actually provide in-game stat bonuses, and since GoG doesn't have an achievements system, the bonuses don't show up in-game either. (Maybe that has changed in the last patch?)

That might not seem like a big difference, but even small code changes (especially if it involves networking elements) can cause a lot of trouble.

I rather doubt help desk are the ones doing the packaging/testing of the patch. If they would like to reduce the pestering someone could bother to mention that they are in the process of working on it, better communication.

Doubt it. Genius move to design the game to exclusively use Steamworks for achievements while also distributing on platforms other than Steam.

That's not up to GoG, it's up to us. We have two separate builds. One is for Steam with that achievement support and some other features, the other is made for GoG players. GoG team has our GoG build of the game. :) They just need to test it and repack it with their packer. Those achievement in-game bonuses are Steam exclusive, unfortunately, and it won't change for the time being. :-/

Just to be clear, does the DLC content add all its non-story stuff to freeroam, or is it just encapsulated in its own campaign?
Yes!

DLC is separated in two parts. Campaign storyline which will be enabled if you load your capaing save and if you're high enough level and the rest of content that is available to both freeroamers and campaigners and include all new features, ships, Keppler station, side missions...

Bought... simple as that. Spammed it on my Twitter, as well. If you come out with a Linux version (for Ubuntu or SteamOS) I will rebuy the entire game, too.

No Linux, for now, unfortunately. It would be very time consuming to make a Linux version and there are not many of us here so we decided we will focus on new content for now.
can u give us some hints about the future content? maybe an itsy bitsy tiny one?

Aaaah, why don't you say so? :D

There are many things planned in the future and we're working on it. What can you expect in future DLCs and the expansion:

- Ability to conquer parts of Gemini space
- Having your own station
- Free DLC with complete Starpoint Gemini 1 port (cannot 100% confirm yet)
- DLC that will introduce new Titan class ships (those beast were requested by the community so we said ok)
- New side and freelance missions, new campaign missions like in Secrets of Aethera
- new ships in existing classes
- Meepsanity difficulty (totally funny and random difficulty where different random thing will happen) - think Insanity. Meepsanity was requested by community in famous Meep thread on Steam.
- Complete HUD overhaul (since the current one looks a bit old considering the graphic beauty of the game)
- We will try to enable you to hire more than 2 mercenaries.

I hope you will like it. :)
