I have been looking around online and see that the DEV's have planned joystick support for this game and have seen individual people posting that their sticks work (some with throttle issues). I am wondering if there is a definitive list of sticks that are supported. Also anyone who uses a joystick with this game I am very interested in how well it works. I am an old school flight sim guy and a joystick is mandatory for me.

I just fired it up with my Thrustmaster T.16000M joystick. The game recognises that it is plugged in but you have to configure everything about it, i.e. rebind the pitch up control from s by moving the joystick. It then overrides the keyboard settings, no alternative bindings. Throttle is not recognised at all.

In game, it works okay. It does seem to be more aimed at controllers but the joystick works fine.

I prefer to play any flying game with me joystick but I will stick with keyboard controls on this one. It is not really the type of game that uses a joystick, it is a capital ship moving slowly is space type of RPG/Strategy flying game, kind of like the old Starfleet Command games. Not a space sim flying game as such.

Thank you for the reply. In my searching before I was focused on joystick support and didn't realize the game play didn't focus on dog fighting. Does it play more like EVE Online then?

I haven't played EVE Online but from what I have seen of that game on Youtube, the combat looks pretty similar to that.
No, it's nothing like EvE Online. You have to manually target your enemy, not click on your weapons or drones and watch them do their magic. It's more combat oriented, but it's not Elite style dogfighting since you own capital ships, not little fighters.

Also, there is no supported controllers list, but I think devs will post one soon.
If your joystick doesn't work with the game, please send mail to oliver@starpointgemini.com and tell him your joystick model and problem you're having.

The guys are constantly implementing new controllers in the game.

Agreed. It's not dogfighting little fighters with cockpit view. You have to be aware of 360 degree surroundings and you couldn't do that with cockpit view. And without that, playing with joystick is not that immersive. Not in the third person view.

That said, I like the game and I'm playing Star Conflict and Mech Warrior on hotas, and enjoy playing SPG2 on mouse and keyboard. :)
I tried to play with the XBox controller here and couldn't steer or accelerate the ship.
Via the extra menu, I could put all power to the engines. This was the only way to move forward... until I hit the planet.

If I am correct, acceleration/movement should be done with the left joystick and rolling with the right? I had to remember it from the options menu, because the tutorial would only say NA to any buttons.

Then I switched to keyboard/mouse. During the tutorial I checked the starmap and somehow disabled my left mouse button :( Even back in the menu (ESC twice) I couldn't click anything.

p.s. actual, I will watch the videos now, then try again :)

You have XBox controller commands in attachment. :)

Wired XBox works perfectly as far as I know, but wireless sometimes has issues. :-/ We're working on it still...

Mine is wireless!

I am good with keyboard/mouse as I am actual more used to it. The game is beautiful and really enjoyable as a former Freelancer veteran!

p.s. are there nomad? :D
Another question on controls, is this a game that requires me to train a mouse cursor on a target and click click click, or can I assign targets with keys and have turrets automatically track them?

I ask because I'm not very interested in this being a hand-eye coordination exercise, but one in which I designate actions that get dutifully carried out.

You can either target everything manually or use Fire-At-Will option that will target nearest enemies and fire at them automatically. That's pretty nice option when you're surrounded by more enemies. Your turrets will track the targets and kill them.

If you Mark Target, then your fighters and your turrets in Fire at will mode, will focus on marked target.
