I think the code is really deactivated. You can enter any number and play.

What used to happen is after a week or so of game time, the police would pull you over and check your code again. So if I am wrong about the above then this is what will happen.
You should be able to find the starcodes in the bonuses.
There is also a program in the game folder called Starflight codes by GOG

That code generator goes with StarFlight 1. It does seem to be needed to play SF1. I have the same question as the original poster abt SF2. I haven't been playing long, but haven't yet been pulled over by the space cops either, so I suppose we will see. I'll update if anything develops.
see the last response in this other thread:
http://www.gog.com/forum/starflight/security_code_explained_in_plain_english

some other hinted that the copy protection it's really disabled, I'm not sure about it

Still no cops? So you can confirm that protection is disabled in Starflight 2?

I'm sorry, I didn't play much after that last post. I got a side-line work assignment that has eaten up all my spare time, and I haven't had the opportunity to get back to the game.
I can confirm that this version of Starflight 2 does not require any code - the version that was available on fan websites had the code requirement deactivated and that appears to be the same version that GOG is using. Originally it was exactly 6 days (in both games) after you left starport when providing an incorrect code that the police would visit you.
I'm trying to play this, but right after I enter the information, there is nothing but black inside the port window. There's no graphics there at the launch at all. Just blackness. It's like the game is just frozen at that point. It won't let me proceed any further. This is Starflight 2 I'm playing. I'm using the information provided by gog in the file details (the starmap pdf file). I've tried it many times with no luck. It's not letting me proceed at all.

After you launch, you need to go to Navigation Officer -> Maneuver.

Every version of SF2 that I've played the value "1" works for the answer.
