I learned a few things recently that I wish were more explicit so you don't waste time/resources.

Aside from in mines, you can dig up artifacts ONLY from the stem/worm spots. You can dig everywhere else but you'd be wasting your time. (exception being the farm for a certain one)

Lightning rods only get hit by lightning if they are placed on your farm. I tried placing a grid of them at the mountaintop but it was a waste because none of them did anything (because all the lightning targets your farm lol)

I believe CA added storms not for realism, but to add another obstacle, another challenge to the players.
Your fruit trees can be destroyed in days of storm. The lightning rods were created not only to generate batteries, but to protect your trees.

It would be realistic if you could use them outside of the farm, but he (dev) probably doesn't want people to have tons and tons of batteries, so easily.
They definitely should say they need placed on your farm, just like the casks say they need to be in your cellar.

I thought fruit trees can't be destroyed? Just temporarily transformed to produce coal? Regular trees can be destroyed.

So you think it is that way for pacing? Because it's definitely not a viable money option, and you can't make so many in the early game anyway. I wanted batteries so I could make lamp posts.

Yeah you're right, in 1.1 they can't be destroyed anymore.
CA changed the lightning effects on fruit trees, so for people playing with the latest patches, it makes your tree produce coal. But in a previous version, your trees could be destroyed, as proven by the inumerous people discussing the effects of lighning, in multiple websites:

No, I was not talking about selling batteries.
You need batteries to make Crystalariums and Iridium Sprinklers.
Crystalariums are a great way of making money, I'm already getting more than 10k with them. They're certainly a viable option of making money. It shouldn't be your main strategy to get $$$, though.
And I don't even have to explain how powerful Iridium Sprinklers are, so I understand why CA wouldn't want them to be super easy to create.

Agreed.

Well, they are bought easily from the travelling cart and Krobus already. xD

Easily??? Hahahah, they're not cheap.

Each one is 10k, and even when he's selling this sprinkler, it's only one unit.

So "easily", hahahahah, I don't think so. =D

And you cannot obtain them from Travelling Cart, sorry.

You can buy several units (sometimes) of one ware at the cart. I got five(5) Iridium Sprinklers at 3k each in one go that one day.

And of course I was lucky.

No you can't.
Yes you can. Or maybe could? Was the release-version back then.

Maybe in old version, then.
Because I've played 200+ hours, and she never sold Iridium Sprinkler to me.
Also, travelling cart is not mentioned in the Stardew Valley wiki:
http://stardewvalleywiki.com/Iridium_Sprinkler
http://stardewvalleywiki.com/Travelling_Cart
As you can see in the list above, she can sell Sprinkler and Quality Sprinkler, but not Iridium Sprinkler.
The talk page for the Travelling Card on the wiki has the following entrance:

"My post was true for 1.07. Iridium Sprinklers definitely existed pre-1.07. I'll have a look at the 1.1.1 stock. --BryghtShadow (talk) 20:47, 9 October 2016 (BST)"

My game is at version 1.05.
It also has this list:

Items that will never be sold
Out of the 541 "objects", the following will never be sold:
Ancient Fruit • Angler • Crimsonfish • Dwarvish Translation Guide • Glacierfish • Green Slime Egg • Ice Pip • Iridium Sprinkler • Lava Eel • Legend • Mermaid's Pendant • Mutant Carp • Rain Totem • Stonefish • Tea Set • Warp Totem: Beach • Warp Totem: Farm • Warp Totem: Mountains • Wild Bait
Any "object" that has no category, or has no value, or is a Quest item, or has the name "Weeds", or is a Mineral, or is an Artifact.
Out of the 167 "furniture", the following will never be sold:
'A Night On Eco-Hill' • 'Burnt Offering' • 'Jade Hills' • Bear Statue • Budget TV • Calendar • Chicken Statue • Crystal Chair • Dried Sunflowers • Leah's Sculpture • Lg. Futan Bear • Obsidian Vase • Plasma TV • Singing Stone • Skeleton • Sloth Skeleton L • Sloth Skeleton M • Sloth Skeleton R • Standing Geode
So, since OP is most likely playing the latest version, he will never get Iridium Sprinklers from the travelling cart (unless he modify the game, of course).
The fact that you can only buy it from Krobus (a NPC that can't visit unless you have access to the sewers) on fridays, for 10k, and only one unit, makes buying sprinklers for the whole farm a VERY slow process. Maybe in the past it was easy to get multiple Iridium Sprinklers from NPCs, but it's not anymore.

I'm pretty sure I also bought an iridium sprinkler from the cart before, a few versions ago.

I don't doubt it, but you can't do it in current version.

Given that the difficult part of getting iridium sprinklers is getting the iridium itself, you still can. I bought 5 iridium bars from the traveling cart a few days ago, and I'm on the latest version. I think they were only 3000 gold apiece, but I can't remember exactly. I've only ever seen them sold from the cart that one time though, so it's probably a rare occurrence. It did however net me 5 iridium sprinklers very cheaply and easily.
