It looks like an update came out but I don't see a separate listing for the patch as with Witcher where it lists them all, as they came out. I just have the one installer like when I first installed the game.

If I download and run the installer does it just patch over or does it require a re-install of the game? I just don't want to loose my progress.

The save files aren't touched by installing or removing the game, so you can just install the new version over the previous one.

It has been quite some time since games put their save files in the installation folder, which would cause problems. This game here puts the save files in your app data folder (C:\Users\[insert your windows user profile here]\AppData\Roaming\StardewValley\Saves).

Good question. I came here wondering the same thing. As you say, normally the patches are separate downloads, but with this game there is just the one download (the game itself). I can't see a version number displayed anywhere in the game either, so are we to assume this is the latest version, or...? Very confusing.

As the above poster said, whatever you decide to do, your saves should be safe. When you choose to uninstall anything from GOG the uninstaller will ask you if you wish to keep your saved games.

Okay all thanks so much. I'll just try installing the installer that's there on top of my game. As I recalled I remember once trying to patch W3 but had forgotten I had already done so but GOG's installer software was smart enough to tell me "Your game is already up to date" or something like that so I should be good.

Hey RetroCodger I only figured there was a new update because above GOG's main page next to my account there shows a little greyed out tag with a number in it. I have found that to usually mean someone has responded to a post or thread I'm in or that an update became available for a game or even when a new game enters your library. Its hard to see but if you look to the left of a game's name in your library, if there is a little blue dot I have found that it means there's a new file or patch for that game.

Best way to be sure seems to be to use Galaxy. Normally I use the GOG Installer method, but Galaxy seems cool when it comes to updates - also because you can rollback to previous versions of the game in case the latest patch messes it all up. I rolled back to the initial release version and yes - I can see a blue dot indicating the newer versions with Galaxy as well.

About the non-galaxy method, I've just realised after my first post that the download page shows the version number which indicates that it's all up-to-date in that one link. If you look at that single GOG Downloader link, you should see a version number. It should say 1.05 (that's the latest one).

I'm guessing you did the right thing by reinstalling because as far as I know it won't update an existing installation automatically if you use a non-Galaxy method, and seeing as there are no links to updates, getting the latest installer and reinstalling seems to be the only option.

It seems (at least with this game) that if anyone wants to pick and choose updates they have to use the Galaxy client. :/

Incorrect, at least for this game.

I don't have/use Galaxy and I have not uninstalled this game to update it. All I've done is download the full game/installer that my Library shows (eg, "setup_stardew_valley_2.3.0.5.exe"), doubleclick it to start the install process, and the install just updates the game. I'm guessing it detects there's already a previous install and just updates the files required (or all of them - in any case seems no need to uninstall first).

...anyway, may not apply to all GoG games/updates, but works fine with Stardew Valley, for me.

You can see the version number on the main menu when you click the ? button in the bottom right corner of the main menu. You'll then see the version number in the bottom left corner.

That's what I meant (more or less, erm, effectively) :P
Indeed, you're correct, you don't need to uninstall it for it to update.
I just meant it doesn't automatically update itself as it does with Galaxy, and using other methods you can't select different versions, just the latest one. I had just assumed that using the latest installer replaces all of the files, effectively uninstalling the entire older version then replacing it with the new. :)
