Have been looking forward to this game releasing. Would kinda like to get the Gog version, but I'm wondering, will there be updates coming here as well?

And while not my primary focus, when multiplayer lands at some point, will the Gog version be able to play multiplayer? If so, will it cross-play with Steam users as well?

I feel like many of the indies I've gotten on Gog have been rather limited versions. Lacking multiplayer altogether. Lacking level editor or at the very least pretty much impossible to use levels made since Gog doesn't use Steam Workshop (Ya I know, big shock there ;-p )

But seeing ConcernedApe actually post on the forums gives me hope the Gog version might not languish completely unloved.

So, any word on patches and multiplayer? Will a Gog purchase of this end up being a perpetual single player experience which may remain unpatched forever?

the dev has to send patches to GOG, but it may take time for the GOG staff to put up the patches.

Well being a bit behind on patch time is not as bad as simply not getting any patches at all.

I think I'll take my chance here and get Stardew valley on Gog :-)

hey ape, the game is excellent so far and though i haven't encountered any of the mentioned bugs i'm proceeding cautiously, have you submitted the 1.01 to the GOG staff yet?

I would also like to get this game on GoG and I'm not too worried about the patching since we will get them eventually, but I'm interested in how the modding will work. I guess it depends on if the mod creator decides to just upload the mod to Steam Workshop but is there a way to get a mod off the Workshop if you don't have the game on Steam?

Well, I think as buyers of the game we have the same rights to get updated versions as Steam-useres have, don't you agree? So I see it as a self-evident fact that the GOG-version "won't be abandoned".

However, it's always great if a developer is active in this forum. I have great confidence, that ConcernedApe will not let us starve here. I've watched the development of this wonderful game over many years now, and was always very fond of the care and attention to details, of the steady improvements and the developer's conciousness to create a perfect game. After the first two hours of playing, I can clearly state that Stardew Valley is a work of real love and I'm absolutely sure it won't be abandoned - even here on GOG. ;)

I agree completely, but unfortunately it doesn't always work out that way. Some games that get released here end up not having features, updates, and/or DLC that the Steam version has. Thankfully this is very rare, but it does happen. With Stardew Valley being made entirely by one person and online features probably being the most common for the GOG version of a game to not have when there is a disparity, I did wonder if multiplayer would end up being exclusive to Steam users.

Just a sad extra note here: The list is incomplete. Personally I felt a bit bummed at Retro City Rampage not having online features (okay fair enough....but why then still show the highscore table screens with a large GOG.COM version text as the only content as if it was a demo)
Also I don't believe Escape Goat 2 has received a level editor which seems to be exclusive to Steam.
I think Legend of Grimrock did eventually get an editor, but that was quite far behind as well.

These being part the reason why I asked here. Though I like Gog and do prefer to have a DRM free version to play around with. I'm not getting Stardew Valley for it's multiplayer, but it would be nice if at some point when multiplayer is done, if a friend had bought the game I could be able to play it coop without having to buy the game all over again on Steam. I'm trusting ConcernedApe here though, and I'm not that much in a hurry I must have patches the same day as Steam users.
