micktiegs_8: In the minimum sys requirements it says network: broadband internet. Surely, that's not just to play the game, right?
I'm sure it means that dialup wouldn't work well for multiplayer. I turned off my wifi and it loads up just fine.

gamesfreak64: system requirements are fair :D very nice

but : Graphics: 1280x720 minimum resolution
is not ....
That's also not accurate, the game allows you to turn the resolution all the way down to 832x624, at least in the "fullscreen resolution" section.

pbnjoe: Does purchasing the game here allow one to setup/run a dedicated server without Steam/SteamCMD? I can't find any guide to setting up one without it, even though there's a Humble version.
To answer myself, looks like there's a server exe in the game's folder so I would imagine copying to the server and running would work.

Also, for anyone who's wondering, the game's music is available under Starbound\win32\output\music when it's installed, and I'd bet there's an equivalent folder on Linux (or you could extract it from the Windows installer, etc.)

Luckmann: When, approximately, is the full release planned? A month, two months, three months?
avatar
Darvond: Sometime after the next World of Warcraft game comes out.
Which is a good point to quote Blizzard: It's done when it is done!

I don't care about a release date as long they add content and features to the game. It's a sandbox game and you can play it already.

If you've purchased the game, disable your network connection then start the game and see what happens.

I've been waiting for this game to come out and NOT require Steam...but I'm wary of buying something incomplete.

Then again, the last game I purchased like that was Minecraft, and look how that turned out. ;)

Except A, Blizzard has no reason to make a new Warcraft seeing as WoW is doing just fine still, and B, Blizzard has never been a complete tease about their products.

xaviorq8: Wow, after the Ashes and Zomboid FAQs this one is just so... let's go with "uninformative", to be nice.
Agreed. Also, the FAQ on The Curious Expedition, too. All those teams seem really excited to be on GOG and were very accessible and forthcoming, addressing issues and questions customers might have. This one is a bit... lacking, let's put it that way.

Still, I'm glad to be supporting the development of Starbound, of the in-dev games GOG sells as of today, it's definitely my favourite (kind of on par with Project Zomboid, now that I think of it), and, well, I guess the devs just feel more comfortable gathering the community on their own site, which is understandable, since they most likely have been building it for years.
In one of their blog posts the devs announced there will be two or three major beta versions before 1.0.

Inny: *snip!*
From the Dev Blog:

The Story Update + The Polish Update

So what about after the combat update?

We’re planning to put out 2 more patches before 1.0 (and many afterwards).

So what will these updates contain? There are a great number of additions planned. Highlights include an entire set of missions, an opening mission that will explain your role in the world, a great deal of new quests that tie the world together, a cast of wonderful unique characters and a huge amount of new content. It’ll also include a much improved pet system, a new means of scanning and examining the world, the much improved reimplementation of survival mechanics like hunger and more.

We’re also planning to revamp how mods are applied and managed, add steam workshop support and simplify multiplayer, with the ability to join games via the steam friends list.

There’s a great deal more to these two patches, including massive performance optimisations, multiplayer improvements and controller support but we’ll be talking more about those closer to their release.

Post 1.0 and Beyond

We plan to support Starbound far beyond the 1.0 release. We’re building a universe that’s capable of being taken in a great number of different directions and we’d like to start polling the community to find out where you’d like it to go next.

One thing we’ll be looking into soon after release is director mode. Something you’re able to find information on here

In the mean time, follow us on twitter, check out our daily blog updates and we’ll keep you informed.

Thank you for supporting Starbound guys, we’re almost there!

I am really excited for more narrative content. It'll be like a second chance not to cheat all the enjoyment out of the game. ;) ... which I'll inevitably squander. I am General Douglas Macarthur as described by Dwight Eisenhower.

“He’d like to occupy a throne room surrounded by experts in flattery; while in a dungeon beneath, unknown to the world, would be a bunch of able slaves doing his work and producing the things that, to the public, would represent the brilliant accomplishment of his mind. He’s a fool, but worse, he is a puking baby.”

Paczyk: Why decide to join games in development on GOG?
We were at a point in Starbound's development where it was already pretty fun, so we decided to release the game in beta through early access to ensure the community has a chance to help us shape the game.

Approximately how long will this game be in early access?
It's difficult for us to give a solid release date-- we're not so good at those, we've learned. Starbound still has a ways to go, but we'll keep you posted via our website!

What do you plan to change during development?
The full version of Starbound will contain a plot and sidequests, more dungeons, more bosses and lore, among other features.

What is the current state of your game?
Starbound is already extremely playable and contains a vast amount of content in its current state!

Will the price change on release day?
The price will likely change after release!

How can the community participate in the development process?
We post daily progress updates on our , and we're always hanging around [url=http://playstarbound.com/live-chat/]IRC.
Unsticky this one please :) Game is already released .
