My X-55 Rhino joystick won't work properly with X-Wing Alliance. After doing a fresh install, my ship just perpetually pitches around and won't accept any input from my joystick at all, not even buttons. Also, game controller remap menu is totally empty; I can't rebind anything.

I've tried disconnecting all other usb controllers and restarts, with no change. The only change I can make is if I invert the pitch settings, which in turns inverts the direction my ship spins.

Saitek HOTAS controllers have notoriously bad compatibility issues, but if it has some sort of mapping software or driver contol panel you should check if the various axes are named properly (x for yaw, y for pitch, ro for rudder and z for throttle) and create a peripheral profile specific to X-wing Alliance because it seems that it is detecting as axis something it shouldn't.

See, the thing is that I've played X-Wing alliance flawlessly with this joystick in the past, so I know that it works. There's a problem with my installation that I can't see, and I've already tried re-installing drivers.

There's no issue with the profiler. Everything is running default and no axis are re-mapped.

You could try using this application I use that combines my stick, throttle and pedals. It uses vJoy whic you set as the Preferred device under the Advanced Settings.

One advantage is also being able to adjust the response curves for the axis's. It also allow you to bind macro keys for all buttons.

Weird, did you change OS?
Windows 10 sometimes messes with Saitek HOTASes.

Actually, yes I did - I upgraded from windows 7 to 10 since last I played, so that could be it. I already reinstalled my drivers multiple times, though, so I don't think the drivers are corrupted. Especially since they work with modern games like Elite Dangerous and Battlefield without any issues. The problem is the stick itself. I'm actually trying to use Universal Control Remapper(with Vjoy) to combine my throttle and stick for X-Wing alliance, but UCR doesn't detect my joystick either.

Using PPJoyID I moved my throttle and stick from ID 1&2 respectively to something else, say 5&6, and now everything works. That means there's something wrong with JoyID 1 on my system, but what could that be?

I assume XWA uses JoyID 1 no matter what, being an older game, so I can't really work around that can I?

Well, literally all my ports are USB 3 so I guess that rules out that.

How do I go about cleaning the registry for these drivers short of a wipe?
