Palpat: All right,no music too.
Is there a fix for this?
Thanks. :)
ASSUMING YOU HAVE WINDOWS 10 64 BIT EDITION!!!!!!
Forget all this drivel about replacing the sound files. What you want to do is DELETE winmm.dll (after backing it up). We're going to have Tie-Fighter (or X-Wing or X Vs. Tie) use the proper windows version of the dll. NOW, you must change the reference in the executable to win32.dll instead of winmm.dll if you're on a 64 bit OS --AND-- turn of 3d-acceleration in the game. It runs like a champ then. After deleting winmm.dll use a hex editor (HxD is one) to edit the XWING95.exe file. Replace WINMM.dll (yes in caps) with the text WIN32.dll. What this will do is remove the broken winmm.dll file and refer to the windows working win32.dll file. Everything will be good.
(What we're really doing is pointing the 32 bit executable to a 32 bit library. That makes it very happy)
What you'll lose: The new soundtrack is ogg files. Not the old midi where you would hear different music based on ships arriving or targets destroyed.
What you'll gain: Full 12 button joystick support, great graphics.
The choice is yours.
May the force be with you.
