Hey all. :)

I'm having a small sound problem with XWA.

I installed it yesterday, after the updated installer was released, and played the first three missions. Everything went down without a hitch.

Today I sat down to play some more, and... Something's gone wrong.
I have no in-game speech and no in-flight speech, engine sounds and blaster/combat sounds. Just music.

And between yesterday and today, NOTHING changed. The same system, the same install, the same flightstick, the same Pilot. No mods installed, no changes to anything. Yet... No sound.

I already tried setting it to only single-core affinity, but that didn't help. I got Emkay to read out the mission briefing, but as soon as I entered the ship, it was back to "no speech, no engine sounds, no combat sounds" again.

It's playable, but... Only barely. Missing all those sound cues is kind of draining the joy out of the game, to be honest.

Anybody got any ideas?

Try uninstalling the game and re-installing it. Did you happen to have any Windows updates install in the background between the time everything ran well and the time you started experiencing this issue? Yes, I know you wrote that nothing changed but it never hurts to ask :)
I'll try a re-install now. :)

Also:,No. No updates. I have Windows Updates on "ask before download", and I always do them on weekends, so nothing was updated. (And yes, it was a good question. Those are always things that are easily forgotten/dismissed. :) )

I also just had an experience where I started a quick skirmish (B-Wing vs. Assault Frigate), and the music would cut out whenever I got a few KM away from the enemy ship, so that I was completely without sound. As soon as I got nearer to the enemy ship again, the music (and just the music) cut in again. It's... Weird.

I briefly had the same problem. In my case, the sound card settings for my motherboard's built-in sound chip were set to 5.1 surround sound, since I have that type of speaker setup. The combat, engine and speech sounds came back after I set the sound card settings in the Audio Manager to simple Stereo...so far, so good.

Be sure to push escape and make sure all the volume settings are turned up.
I'm going off memory here but I think there may be an in-flight keyboard toggle for Sound (and a separate one for music). Try CTRL-S.
