Hi all,

Quick Q before I purchase the game. According to another post the gog version does NOT support hardware 3D. Is this true?

Does this mean the 3D parts of the game are rendered in software?

I currently have the old CD version installed on another PC (took a while to make it work) and it has functioning 3D graphics using the X-Wing Alliance Upgrade pack. I am concerned that when I put the gog version on another PC - with the upgrade pack - that it won't look right or be buggy.

Any info on this greatly appreciated.

I tried Hardware 3D and the GOG version definitely supports it. It's no different to your modded/hacked version and uses the same new renderer to make it work.
It"can" cause problems, depending on the other PCs system/hardware, but generally I don't see any problems transfering the files to a new install.
The only thing missing is the resolution/widescreen patch from xwahacker. All other known fixes are already applied.

Which post? Haven't seen such a report yet.

No, 3D hardware rendering is working. GOG has at least one of the fixes known from XWA Hacker applied to the game and uses a custom renderer to avoid other problems. You might wanna read this post since you will either have to use XWA Hacker to change the resolution to anything else as the GOG release has been locked at a resolution 800x600 via XWA Hacker: http://www.gog.com/forum/star_wars_xwing_and_tie_fighter_series/xwa_flight_engine_locked_at_800x600/post15

Edit: Removed the part about removing the renderer to fix the resolution lock, these issues are indeed not related to each other.

So this release uses a renderer that wasn't out before? I had to use an old version of AMD drivers in addition to all the hacks to get it to run in 3D mode with my disc copies. Can it run with the latest drivers? If so, that's awesome.

Yeah. Someone wrote a DX11 wrapper very recently. Game looks the same as it did, but runs perfect on Windows 10 even

That is awesome. Just bought the game and installed without a hitch. Didn't think I needed to buy the game again but that is so much easier than doing the whole dance with the CDs. YAYYYYYYYYYY
Even if they have permission to use the fixes, it will be really nice if GOG posted a big "Thank you" for all the guys the did the hard work with unofficial fixes along the years. It should be made very visible right on the "News" page. If not, at least here on the forums.

The 3D fix for XWA was made by JeremyaFr and you can find more about this at XWA Upgrade.
