jonah255: Is it me or can I charge my shields a lot faster from diverting power from lasers then actually cranking shield power to full. It seems like having my shield power to full often has no effect.
Lasers charge much more rapidly than shields. So most of the time, I will have lasers charging at full, and shields charging at 0, and engines thus are at even level. Then I regularly transfer laser energy to shields with the ' [lower case "] key. Also every so often press s 3 times fast - especially after a few hits.
Do not increase charging of shields unless you want to go slow.
Good luck & have fun.
Thanks GOG.
Solo4114: Actually, the "speed affects turn radius" thing didn't come in until, I think XvT, and possibly XWA. In the floppy versions of X-Wing and (I think) Tie Fighter, throttle speed didn't change your turn radius
real.geizterfahr: Mmh... I think you're right, it was X-Wing Alliance where you had to slow down for tight turns. I just remembered hitting the 1/3 throttle button, going into a turn and hitting the full throttle button again, so I dropped it here.
Solo4114: That said, I'd rather be in an A-wing than a Y-wing any day
real.geizterfahr: Definitely! The Y-Wing is the second worst ship you can fly in any of the X-Wing and TIE Fighter games xP
Solo4114: T/Bs especially are "meat on the table" for most fighters.
real.geizterfahr: Yup. But if you have one behind you, you'll want to shake it before it gets a torpedo lock. That's where my "loop with an A-Wing behind a bomber" came from ;) The dupe's a sitting duck in almost every situation (yep, the worst ship in my eyes). Except it's beind you with enough time to get a lock on you (that's the only thing a TIE bomber can hope for).
Hello Solo & real.geizterfahr:
You are correct, your turn rate technically was the same at 1/3, 2/3, & at full throttle. That would be in degrees per second. But I think at full throttle, you would be covering more distance, so your turn would not be as tight as at 2/3 or 1/3 - I believe. So if I had a TIE on my tail, I would cut to 1/3 or 2/3, and make sharp turns. It seemed to help me, and I believe my hypothesis was correct - getting me a tighter turn and shaking the TIEs more readily. Try it and see if you agree. Just do not stay at 1/3 or 2/3 for too long or more badies will catch you.
Good luck & have fun! Thanks so much GOG!!!
