Where does the game save pilot data. I'm rebuilding my PC and want to continue from where I last left off.

Thanks.

Pilot files are stored in X-Wing's root directory, just like its successors. You can recognise them by the ".plt"-extension, except TIE Fighter, in which it is the ".tfr"-extension.

where is this on mac osx? the only thing inside "/Applications/Star Wars TieFighter/" is a Contents folder with some Gog galaxy files, not the actual game installation

Q: Where can I find my Boxer (DOS) game's save files?
To access your saved games, go to Applications -> Terminal
In Terminal, paste, or type in, the following line and press Enter (Return):
open ~/"Library/Application Support/Boxer/Gamebox States"
Find your game's folder. The package containing your save files is located inside.
