Hello. I have recently purchased a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro (it was cheap and convenient), and I was wondering if the wonderful GOG community could recommend a nice control setup for the X-Wing and/or TIE Fighter games. The stick has 12 buttons, plus this direction stick at the top (which in IL-2 let's me look around my plane, but in these games simply gives me 4 extra buttons to play with).
Thanks for any help in advance!

Right now I'm using a cheap Logitech Attack 3 and my set-up for both XvT and XWA you can see in the attached image.

Good choice for a stick, I use that too and very happy with it. Here's my control setup. Note that it applies only to X-wing and TIE-fighter, I have a slightly different one for X-wing Alliance.

I didn't bother to set the bottom keys since I find it easier having my left hand on the keyboard, since it provide more options.

I don't think you need to use a joystick throttle in any X-Wing game, because you end up using only "Full", "Third" and "Match speed with target" 99% of the time anyway, and for that you need buttons, not throttle.

Yep, it looks that way, I'm gonna use the hat switch for that I think, old stick, buttons not too much responsive anymore, thanks !

Nice set-up, I hardly use the side buttons either, but if I'm veering port or starboard in a hot dogfight it's nice to be able to flick a thumb or pinkie finger out and pump laser power or throttle up:)

Thanks. I think I'll make a video showing how I fly using the Joystick with my right hand, and the keyboard with my left. Follow my XWA video workthrough on this thread.
I'd like to know more about your bindings on this one indeed !

I can't seem to get my Extreme 3d Pro to work at all. I'm using Mac OS X 10.7.5. DO I need to download joystick mapper or something? The joystick is being recognized as being plugged in, but the controls don't do anything.

No problem for me except for the throttle and z/rotation axis, I use wineskin with the engine provided in the next link... I tried to switch axis using controllermate but with no success...

This is my first time using this site. I can't just play the game I downloaded from here? I need to download something else also?

Which game in the series are you trying to play? X-Wing vs TIE Fighter and X-Wing Alliance do not have native OSX support, but the original X-Wing and TIE Fighter games should. Still, some players prefer to run the Windows versions on OSX, using a program like the one that mr_space linked to. If the native OSX version is having trouble with the joystick, it may be possible to get it working by running the Windows version in Wineskin.

If you are using one of the DOS games, you can also try changing some settings in the DOSBox configuration file, like joysticktype (try 2axis or fcs instead of auto) and toggling timed=true to timed=false (or vice versa).

I'm no expert on running things under OSX though, so I should defer to others to help you out.

I'm trying to play the X-Wing Collectors edition. Not the windows version, but the Mac version that GOG just released a week or two ago. Thanks.
My post was about XWA, no mac support , so I used wineskin to port it on os x, I don't know anything about your problem, sorry...
