Will the GOG release of X-Wing work with the older midi iMuse system, or does it stick to pre-recorded music only?

I have the collectors edition on CD-Rom, working under Win7, but I miss the old iMuse music that adapted to the current combat situation. If iMuse works I'd pick this up.

My understanding is that the 1994 Collectors Edition CDRom has iMuse, while the 1998 Release does not.

Count me as another saying if this (and Tie Fighter) are confirmed to have the imuse soundtrack, I'll definitely be snagging it.

Only the DOS version of the game has iMUSE. Sadly, the 1998 Collector's Edition only has cd audio which plays constant chunks of music. Which really pains me as a huge fan of the series too :(

Oh, then that's awesome. I will have to pick this up. I just downloaded Elite: Dangerous though, and might try that first :)

Well, that mirrors the actual release schedules from back in the 90s, at least. I was worried that IMUSE would have been absent from both versions, in a Lucas-esque retcon. Notice you can't get the original Star Wars trilogy in any form other than the "remastered" version where Greedo shoots first, now :P

But I'm perfectly happy to play the old dos version in dosbox, primitive gourad shading and all.

Yeah, for sure better than nothing, but I actually migtht be tempted still to search for my 1994 CD-ROM edition.

Well, there's the 1994 CD edition of X-Wing which *does* have iMUSE, and a few other features that make it the best version between the original and 1998 releases of the game. Hoping we get that one here...

Pretty sure it's already included.

"Includes STAR WARS™: X-Wing Collector's CD-ROM and all Tour of Duty expansions: Imperial Pursuit and B-Wing in both - 1994 (DOS) and 1998 (Windows) versions!"

That's what the store page says, but the version you get when you buy it is the 1993 floppy version, not the 1994 Collector's CD-ROM. The floppy version doesn't have voiced briefings and so on.

Basically what Tycho said.

It's kind of weird that we'd get the first and last release of both X-Wing and TIE Fighter and not the second in between releases, the best of the crop.

That's a shame. The description is a bit misleading.

I think it's rather a mistake. And the fact that they haven't removed mention of the Collector's CD-ROM yet suggests that they are more likely to fix the game than the description. It's clear that they are legally allowed to distribute the Collector's CD-ROM, the question is why they ended up distributing the floppy version.
