From the X-Wing description page:

Includes STAR WARS™: X-Wing Collector's CD-ROM and all Tour of Duty expansions: Imperial Pursuit and B-Wing in both - 1994 (DOS) and 1998 (Windows) versions!
As many have reported in these forums and in the comments section, this game does not in fact include the X-Wing Collector's CD-ROM (1994), but instead includes the 1993 diskette version (alongside the 1998 CD-ROM).

GOG, either provide the correct files, or remove this detail from your description. Leaving it there without the proper game version amounts to false advertising!

You also get the 1998 Collector's CD-ROM version.

The 1998 version was called X-Wing Collector's Series and included updated versions of X-Wing and Tie Fighter. The Collector's CD Rom versions was a different release from 1994.
The 1994 X-Wing collector's is basically considered the "best" version of X-Wing. I really hope GOG adds this as a third loadable option.

1998's xwing is also called "collector's cd-rom" in the title screen at the end of the intro im afraid. same for tie fighter 98. very confusing indeed.

ugh this is so disappointing... I'm holding up my purchase because of this T_T
I bought the games anyway, hoping that gog.com will add the authentic Collectors' edition CD-ROM versions in the future. Even though I do have those versions already from way back when, I'd like to see them on my gog.com shelf.

Regardless, they specifically stated that the 1994 version was included, not the 1993 version, ergo false advertising.

Or a typo. Seriously, get over it. And unless you're going to waste the time and money to sue them over a typo, stop throwing accusations around because you're butthurt, FFS.

If it were a typo, it would have been easily fixed by now. Plenty of customers have drawn their attention to it, so the only reason to leave it as is would be an attempt to draw in additional sales.

Whether the initial misinformation was intentional or not, continuing to leave it in place after it has been made clear to be false is entirely dishonest.

its a little bit more than a typo, they say it includes the COLLECTORS CDROM in BOTH 1994 and 1998 version.

both cd-rom editions are indeed called collectors cdrom at the title screen (just watch the intro), but the floppy version is not!

so this is clearly refering to a version not included.

Whether it's a typo or purposeful is beside the point. The fact of the matter is the store page is misrepresenting what's being offered, and should be corrected.

Naturally, it should be corrected, like any error. And like any error, it'll likely be triaged if reported.

That doesn't mean OP handled it well. Want to give me odds that, before pitching a hissy-fit and throwing around accusations, he sent a letter to support, where it might actually be read by someone who could do anything about it?

It has been reported, it has been discussed, and it has not been fixed. There has been ample time to correct this error (how long does it really take to change a line of text in a product description?), and still it has not been corrected. So yes, when they have been given the opportunity to fix a problem and have blatantly refused to do so, I will make accusations of improper business behavior.

And yes, I did file a support ticket on this. The only response received was an automated message confirming the report. Unfortunately with issues like this, all too often you have to raise a public stink before a company will do the right thing; they won't change until they have something to lose. So go ahead, keep making excuses for them; you're only encouraging them to continue these sorts of actions.
Just checked, and the X-Wing description still claims that it includes the 1994 version.

If this were a simple typo, why hasn't it been fixed? It is clear that GOG is aware of it by now. Continuing to leave the claim in place is purposefully misleading customers!
