So, I bought this game, but I don't have a joystick. I tried following some guides to use my 360 controller in '94, but could not get it to work. So now I'm looking at mouse options. 94 appears to control okay with a mouse, but the 95 CD version seems to demand joystick configuration to proceed. I've heard that the 98 version requires a stick, is this also true of 95?

(also, is there a flight school or something? It seems like the only simulation options are obstacle courses. I can fumble through without, but it's been too long for me to remember how a lot of these ingame systems work. :P)

Thanks!

I'm currently playing the '95 CD version with mouse + keyboard with no problems. I don't recall it even asking me about a joystick at all. However, I'm on a Mac, but the game is running through Boxer/DOSBox so I'm not sure why there should be a difference between the Win/Mac versions.

The Flight School you're looking for is the "Combat Chamber", there are multiple missions in there which teach you about all the different weapons/systems/controls.

Ahhh! Turns out Joy2Key doesn't exit the usual way, so it was still lurking and that gave a false-positive to Tie Fighter. Once I closed that it lets me just use the mouse. And I found the Combat Chamber, thanks! :)

One thing though; When I move the mouse left/right it rotates the craft in an odd way (kinda circular?) rather than just turning left or right, so I find I have to 2nd-click + move around to correct it if I want to only rotate left or right without rolling my ship. Is this deliberate?

I'm pretty sure it's deliberate, I kinda recall the same thing from playing X-wing back-in-the-day, but I'm not exactly sure why. Although I have to say I never bother with correcting it, I mean the whole thing is in space so there's no true up/down/whatever anyway it's all relative :D.
