Sorry to be the complete newbie here but I just bought the game and under my account it says there's a 1994 and a 1998 version.

The 1998 version has a 220mb installer and the 1994 has a 20mb installer? I just downloaded the 1998 version because that seemed more reasonable. Do I need to install the 1994 version as well?

No. You only need one version.
The 1998 is the Windows version with higher resolution and voice
The 1994 is the Dos-Disk version with mouse support but without voice and lower resolution.

So the 1998 version is the right one if you want the most out of the game

What about when it comes to the expansion though? That appears to be listed under the 1994 version?

The 1994 version has much better music, though. Plus the textures are pretty ugly in the 1998 version. There were also some other differences, but I can't remember them off the top of my head.

the 1998 version includes both expansions, the 1994 version is missing one

depends, textures arent great indeed, but all in all the graphics are looking much better.
