kristenmaxwell: so i'm still not clear... IS there an EXE that has both the music fixes AND the 3D Acceleration enabled?
The question is, if there is an exe that has:
- The music fixes by Pete Jatz.
- Proper XWA Fixedclear patch for hardware 3D.
Answer: Since yesterday it is available at the vogons.org topic.

Can Hardware 3D be re-enabled in this exe:
Answer: yes, using the patch available at the vogons.org topic. This patch works on any TIE95 exe in both directions anyways (patch and restore).
edited the op, thanks guy from vogons, you're DA MAN!!! ;-)

Well, I just extracted the music patch onto my installation and now I get no music when flying missions, but i do get music on the registration screen, briefing screen, etc. Any ideas?

EDIT: Nevemind, fixed it. I replaced rather than extracted over the top, so I was missing the ogg files. Got it all working fine now. :)

Pvt_Bloody: ======================
SOLUTION FOR ATI CARDS
======================

Thanks to Cyphox and vashren from XWA forum, I got 3D Acceleration working on my ATI R9 270 card :D

I will mention from the start that hex editing the exe file didn't work for me as the game crashed while loading a mission.
So I created an ISO file as Cyphox described.

As already mentioned by shanafin a few post above, driver compatibility was broken when Catalyst 13.11 was released. So the solution provided by vashren was to extract the old dll files from Catalyst 13.1 (when 3D was working) and copy them in the TIE installation folder, therefore bypassing the dll files from Windows folder.
He made an excellent guide: http://www.xwaupgrade.com/phpBB3008/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=11187

Although the fix was for X-Wing Alliance, it works with Tie Fighter 95. All these games are basically based on similar engines.

He suggested that a similar approach should be done for NVIDIA. I am sure that here on GOG, the community will find the solution.

For those who want the quick method, I have uploaded the dll files in an archive on WeTransfer: http://we.tl/7Xy13RTyH4

See attached screenshots with 3D support!

L.E: For the record, I am using Catalyst 14.6
I cannot find a aticfx.dl_ file in 13-1_vista_win7_win8_64_dd_ccc_whql.exe. I can only find aticfx32.dl_ and aticfx64.dl_. Both in the folder, either in the folder, either renamed to aticfx.dl_ and neither in the folder leads to the exact same result for me, .5 seconds of glorious, beautiful 3d hardware acceleration and then crash to desktop.

That WeTransfer link does not work for me, it says "Sorry... The download isn't available anymore."

All I needed to make it work was atiumdag.dll.

* .dl_ files need to be expanded into *.dll files in order to work.

Got a less sketchy download link? I am not running that .exe

Yeah, I extracted the .dl_ to .dll, I do get the .5 seconds before the it crashes.

If you followed these instructions (Click on the blue Download button with a cloud on it, if a window for their download app pops up close it, then click the blue button again) you should get a plain zip file.

Anyway I'll try to find a better hoster. Might take a while though.

What is the date, size and version number on that working atiumdag.dll file's properties?

Thanks. That appears to be the one included with the 13.1 Catalyst release. I will revert my whole machine from 14.11 Beta 2 to 13.1 and report back.

Thanks again.

***Reporting back***

Uninstalling Catalyst 14.11 Beta 2 and installing 13.1 (confirmed in Device Manager the driver is version 9.12 12/19/2012) gets me the same crash to desktop.

I have re-uploaded the files: http://we.tl/aFZARMd1DY
Check the screenshot from my previous posts to see how the files look like in the game folder.
Hope it works, although it could be another problem

Thanks for the attempt.

Same as before. One eyewateringly beautiful 24x AA, 16x AF frame, and then crash to desktop.
Windows 8 by any chance?
