Cyphox: problem is, there's more than just one position with 80 02 00 00 E0 01, there are
i changed the first one. is this correct?

gerwin79: I tried this resolution adjustment yesterday, and it worked fairly well. But I see no benefit. The menu interface is put in the top-left corner, the ingame graphics are stretched to fullscreen but still 640x480. Suppose one should only do this when necessay for the game to run at all.

PS. I started a topic about the 3D hardware toggle at vogons.org in 'release announcements'
I did it basically to go around the freezing issue with 3d acceleration. I don't know why, but Tie Fighter, X-wing Alliance, Dark Forces 2 and probably X-wing really have a problem running in 3d mode in non-native resolution. It's the graphics drivers. But when set to the native resolution it works fine. I've since discovered that on XWA it has to do with Hardware Mip Mapping and turning that off solves the problem. I don't know where you can turn that option off in Tie Fighter. In any case, I'm playing it sans 3d acceleration. It's no big loss.

@Cyphox I have that value only at offset 0F1D80. I'm using CFF Explorer to poke around hex values.

forgot to mention i tried that on xwing, not tie fighter (yet)
Does anyone have any in-game screenshots showing a comparison between 640x480(16-bit) and the 3d accelerated versions? How much of a difference (if any) does it make?

Yes, but they are in my matching topic at vogons.org in 'release announcements'

Same thing, I don't want to be too direcly tied to modifing executables on >this< forum, harmless as it may be. but you go ahead. :)

great little fix - I've got it working no problem in X-Wing, but its a no-go for Tie Fighter for me.

I am using the modified exe from the stickied thread here, that restores the original music etc into tie fighter - all I need now is some bright person to combine the two mods so I can have the musical goodness along with my 3d-acceleration graphics...i'm presuming thats why its crashing as it enters the flight engine for Tie-Fighter anyways..

To be clear - modified Tie95.exe by Pete Jatz for the music fixes first.

Then tried the modified exe from this thread - get crashes..

Anyone out there willing to try ?

The executable you mention seems to have a messed up version of the "fixed clear fix from xwa-hacker for radeon video cards". It starts working in hardware 3D mode after I change that section back to what I expect it to be.
So it is currently partly broken... ask them to fix it.

Gerwin79, could we just put this new executable through tie95nofixedclear.bat? Would that mess up the music fix?

IIRC XWA hacker does not recognize that particular executable, not until the bad section is fixed manually.
I posted something in that vogons.org topic that should help you.

Actually very nice that the Register screen and Briefing map have gotten back their music. :)
The music in the savingcontent package is rather different from how I normally hear it, on 90's hardware. I made a set of midi recordings using a more vintage/conservative Soundfont.

Found it. Thanks for this gerwin. Really appreciate you taking the time to do it.

so i'm still not clear... IS there an EXE that has both the music fixes AND the 3D Acceleration enabled?

You can use the music fix executable and just modify it's hex value related to 3d acceleration in the hex editor. You can find the offset and value on this topic.
