(Sorry if this has appeared elsewhere. I thought I posted it but can't find my post or others on the topic. )

Windows 10, Geforce NVIDIA card. Older system but still runs well otherwise.

Played the GOG version of Tie Fighter:SE. Initially crashed with the GPU DEVICE INSTANCE error. Added some fixes recommended here (can't find the thread anymore) and it worked for a long time.

Now the error is back. Seems to play well for about 20 minutes or so, then it crashes. Restarting results in more frequent crashes. No rhyme or reason that I can tell.

Have also been underclocking my video card using Afterburner, as recommended on the Steam forums (that worked for the Steam version of X-Wing:SE).

Any thoughts? Any other information needed? I'm about 2/3 through the game and hope to move on the Tie Vs. X-Wing and the other games, but I suspect I'll have the same problems.

Love these games and really want them to work.

Have you tried this?
https://github.com/rdoeffinger/xwa_ddraw_d3d11/releases/tag/v1.5.9
You can mess with the settings in the ddraw.cfg file, it will allow to force vsync and use your desktop resolution.

Also it's possible your antivirus is interfering (it happend to me with XvT), create exceptions for the entire folder and the game executable.

Thanks for taking the time to answer.

How do I use the ddraw.cfg file? Open it as an editable text? If so, what do I change?

Open it with word pad, the instructions are in the file itself.
There are various parameters, some are for graphics, some for controls, mostly joystick, M+K and gamepad compatibility options.
