so i just recently bought a logitech extreme 3d pro joystick to use with the tie fighter games, but whenever i launch a mission such as the training course my ship just spins out of control and my joystick doesn't work. Could anyone help me figure out how to actually use the joystick in game and keep it working?

Look in the Windows gamecontroller panel > advanced, the joystick must be the prefered device.

That's not good. Have you got other gamecontrollers plugged in by any chance?

alright so i just tested the windows version of x wing and the same issue with it spinning uncontrollably happened to me again. i ran the 1994 version in compatibility mode, and a window popped up saying that the joystick read in was my
computer. if anyone could help me figure out how to fix it so it uses my joystick instead of thinking my mouse and keyboard is a joystick.

Do you have any external hard drives plugged in? Sounds silly, but the game might be mistaking it for a controller. :)
How does the joystick calibration look like? And could you test your joystick on some other space/flight sim? Just so we can rule out any joystick trouble.

i don't have any external hard drives plugged into my laptop. the joystick works with other things. it just doesn't want to work with x wing or tie fighter. I have the problem in both versions of the games. when i ran tie fighter 1994 in compatibility mode a window popped up that said the joystick loaded was my razer computer. how do i get it to not think that my computer is a joystick?

Edit: alright so i'm not sure what i did but the 1994 version is working with my joystick just fine now, but the 1998 version doesn't work

Edit 2: so i don't really know what the issue is after re- opening tie fighter later on my joystick doesn't work again. honestly this is really starting to frustrate me so any help would be appreciated

Hey,
I had the same problem suddenly. I tried to isolate what had changed, and I had enabled "Double Buffering" under "Advanced Settings" in Graphic Mode Setup. When I disabled that, the joystick worked again. Hopefully this helps you.
