All my life i heard about this amazing game, but I never played it because of the compatibility issues with my pc. When I saw that it was on sale i didn't doubt about buying it. Upon opening the game's intro is very slow and laggy, so i tried creating a .bat that kills "explorer.exe" and re-opens it when the game is closed. So far no results, even changing compatibility does not seems work at all. And when i start a mission game crashes, please if you know a way to fix help

I hardly ever play the 1998 Windows version, so I'm not sure how to help you there, but if you really want to experience this game, you can always download the 1995 Collector's CD-ROM version (considered by many fans to be the definitive version, and included free with your GoG purchase) and try that version, which should be less technically demanding on your system.

No, any GoG game that needs Dosbox to run comes pre-packaged with it. You just install as normal and GoG's files will do the rest. Now if you want to tweak Dosbox settings and map keys to joystick, etc., THEN you'll need to fiddle with Dosbox, but how to do that can all be found pretty easily in some of the stickied threads here.

Thank you for all the help, now I can finally play this great game.
Now I've been assigned a TIE Fighter designated Alpha-1. I asked the briefing officer about shields and he told me to "git good."
