Purchased and downloaded the game yesterday, but it will not install. There is a problem with a file, but not list the file or extension. Running W7. Will downloading via the Gog downloader work?

Yeah will do. Thanks for the heads up :)
Hey all. Right the game downloaded okay and installed on my drive with no issues. However, the launcher is asking for a disc. Is there a fix for this?

Regards
Where did you install the game? If in Program files folder, try to install it somewhere else, i.e. C:\GOG Games
Already at that location?
Could anyone please advise where I claim a refund. Not happy that I have been sold a faulty product.

And if that doesn't work try this:

It works fine for me. I do not think it is a faulty product.

I think you should contact support (if you can't figure it out for yourself) and give them a chance at correcting your problem. If they can, come back here and share the solution. If they can't you can ask them about a refund.
May well have to. There will be no trace files or anything relating to the install. Have not owned or played KOTOR 2 for a good long while.
Hi all. Anybody reading this who is on a Lappy with a IG accelerator, the game won't likely work. I tried a download from Steam as that platform is selling the game as well. It does make sense as the game code is ten years old and of course was a console port. As such there will be no support for IG architecture.

Integrated Graphics on laptops are an issue for most of the well known RPGs i have tried.
There is a legacy direct X download that might enable some users to simulate /activate
(what the heck is the word i want here?) the shaders needed that a Motherboard mounted graphics card ( Nvidea, ATi) would have been able to do for you. New integrated graphics can run the game but the game is still looking for the "discrete" card.

I have found the DX end user runtimes June 2010 to be extremely stable usually , maybe this can get you there

Hey GOG guys, if i broke a rule here, delete as needed.

There are work arounds with the game by modifying certain files, but you need a GMA enabled CPU. The chipset on the lappy I have is very basic 45 Express Chipset. Being an Obsidian game anyway, they were not noted for creating stable games. From what I can gather trawling around different forums, there are so many holes in it even for gamers with top notch components. Personally I don't think the game should be shipped by anybody without a stark warning that the game is still bugged to crap, or at least may not work on your machine. Download and pay at your risk. Tbh, people are better off getting a version for the 360. It still worked fine when I had one, obviously without the hi res pack shipped with the port, which not that much different. Most gamers are probably better off trying the online SWTOR. A new expansion pack concerning g Revan is now downloadable.
Anybody who runs 10+ year old games knows that "top notch components" are usually the problem, rather than the cure. GOG works their collective butts off trying to make these old monsters work on the widest selection of hardware/software. You can't ever buy any game new or old or refurbished or pristine and expect it to work on your particular system.

Both of GOG's KOTORs work fine for me. Sorry you had a different experience.

Yeah I hear on that. In my case though I think it is because I have a basic laptop Celeron based machine. I do still have a SATA drive from an old XP based rig that has a full installation of KOTOR on it. It is a shame that I lost a bona fide XP installation disc, could have set up a separate partition for dual boot. When I get my new machine perhaps things will be different.
