Lately I have been having this problem a lot with GOG games. My new computer is an i5 laptop with on-board graphics, and it has been a nightmare. I assumed having an i5 would help my compatibility, but instead it's annihilated it. I have lost a lot of the games I bought on GOG and may have to buy a lower-end computer just to run them. Jedi Outcast is one of those games. Whenever I try to run it. It just says Jk2sp.exe has stopped working. Is there any way to get this game to run? I'm sure Jedi Academy will crash in just the same way this one does. Can someone please help me get this game running on my Windows 8 machine?
Honestly, crashware is even worse than shovelware.

Please help.

Same with me. The game won't run on my Windows 8 laptop. It's a Lenovo Yoga 13 with on board graphics. I have used several compatibily modes, but nothing works.
Guys, please contact us with your DxDiags so we can get to the bottom of this problem :)
It might be a case of unsupported resolution. Or, you know, of any number of other things, but still...

Try editing base/jk2config.cfg with a compatible resolution. Look for r_mode, r_colorbits, r_fullscreen,
r_customheight/width and other variables in the vicinity. r_mode=-1 is for custom resolutions, while 0 and up are for the game's default 4:3 ones, but some of these might be causing the problem. I recall there being a "safe mode", but I can't say if GOG included it, or if it's actually safe :P

Also, what Judas said :P

On the steam Version i had to install a OpenGL wrapper:
sourceforge.net/projects/gldirect/

In the Package is a file called opengl32.dll, copy this to your GameData folder.

Actually, it may have to do with the Quake 3 engine not working well with integrated graphics. That's what caused MoH AA not to work on my older lappie.

That is a... dubious statement. It's worked for me, on Intel and AMD, XP, 7, and 8, 32 and 64. So, sorry, that's not it ;)

This worked for me. I found this fix here: http://lucasforums.com/showthread.php?t=206018

Thanks, Thorrison. That did the trick.

Now I'm going to try the same thing with Jedi Academy.

I'm so glad to finally be able to have the whole Dark Forces/Jedi Knight series here on GOG.com! :)

Thanks, It works now. :)
Won't work on my surface pro 1. Without the dll it won't start at all. Tried the opengl dll fix, screen gets 100% brighter and colours get distorted intro sound begins to play but the game crashes after that.
after a restart it suddenly worked. With the dll that is.
Out of curiosity, has GOG included their usual atiogl.dll files with these games?
