Evening all,
Picked this game up on sale a few months ago, and I'll probably finally get around to playing it sometime in the next week or so. I was just wondering if there is any consensus on this board regarding the recommended difficulty level to play this game at (Easy, Medium, Hard, etc.). From what I remember, I used to be pretty good at this game back in the day, but I haven't played in years, so any advice is welcome

This is a good question!

:)

I just started re-playing Star Wars: Empire At War a few days ago and currently playing the campaign (Rebellion side, of course! )... again.

I can honestly say this about difficulty levels in video games:

I know this is going to sound redundant but I cannot stress this point enough... Video games are supposed to be fun.
Empire At War is actually one of those rare, very well designed action/strategy games that is actually fun even at level Easy because at that Artificial Intelligence aggression level, you are allowed to play with the units and their special abilities to experiment with how those abilities work... PLUS you can watch the action play out for a bit with the Cinema Cam feature in real-time. The space battles look far more impressive than the land battles in Cinema Cam mode. Too bad there isn't a replay function.

Medium (a.k.a. Normal) level A.I. aggression levels is fairly challenging and you are prone to lose a few battles (if not, the war) if you are not careful on the Galactic Map.

If I'm feeling energetic enough, I might play on Hard level to see what surprises the A.I. throws at me but generally stay away from this difficulty level for two reasons:

1. Need beefier hardware. Empire At War gameplay slows down when there are two many things happening at once...
---not fun.

:(

2. Artificial Intelligence isn't really intelligent; Modern Artificial Intelligence for action games merely increases its speed and aggression.

Have fun out there!

:)
