Hello everyone,

is anyone else experiencing an issue with using crouch on Windows 10 (1803)? When I try to crouch nothing happens regardless of the key I bind it to - everything else works fine. Double pressing the crouch key results in the character going into prone though.

It's also definitely not an issue with the keys itself, if I assign "c" to fire for example, fire works perfectly. If go ahead and assign crouch to "c" the crouch issue appears again.

I have the same issue with the CD version and was hoping this was corrected in the GOG version :( I definitely did not have the issue on Windows 7 years back with the CD version, I can't test that with the GOG version right now though.

Thanks in advance!

I may test this later (I've not yet purchased it from GOG yet but I will be doing so later). Something I did read, though, is that you may have to hold the crouch button for a moment in order to activate it, whilst just tapping it may instead cause a roll. It's been such a long time since I last played it though (and that was on the original Xbox).
I already tried that, holding the crouch button isn't working either unfortunately.
Works fine for me, c is crouch which i just need to slightly tap. If i hold it though then i go to prone just like the x button.
But i am on windows xp sp 3 so maybe that is why it works.
Only thing you could try is maybe try compability mode for windows xp on where you installed the game and run it without galaxy by directly trying the exe where the game is installed.
How do i roll in this game? I tried and i still haven't managed that.
Edit: rolling seems to work if you walk sideways and press space bar or jump

Also try running the game as admin

That's not working either. And yeah, you roll using the spacebar in BF1.
Well, I got it and tried it out and it's working just fine for me. I'm also on Windows 10 1803. The only things I've set are to use a 4:3 aspect ratio screen resolution (1280x1024), letting my GPU maintain the aspect ratio to pillarbox the display, and I'm using RivaTuner Statistics Server to apply a framerate cap of 60 for the game executable, as anything over this can cause issues with the game (I'm using a 144Hz monitor and don't want to have to keep setting a desktop screen refresh of 60Hz each time).

Has to do with V-sync. For some reason in the steam version you can't turn V-sync on - I don't know if it is the same with GOG. Turning V-sync on in the disc version fixes the issue.
There's a guide on the steam forums with the link to the common.lvl

The PCGamingWiki page says that vsync is always on in the digital versions, and if I check the GOG version it has vsync, bumpmapping, motion blur and distortion effects all forced to on and unable to change. There is a command line parameter /noframelock to disable vsync, though.

So I'd say it is a framerate issue, and with high refresh monitors the vsync option won't be enough on its own. You'd either have to reduce your refresh rate to 60Hz or use a framerate limiter.

Friendly reminder that this is actually a 5:4 aspect ratio. 1280x960 would be 4:3. (Or you could use a custom resolution like 1440x1080)

Oops, yes. Thanks!
The options are locked on due to an edit to the common.lvl that I believe accidentally broke the on/off switches.
Most people I talked to had the V-sync option switched to off, so if it is on, then I'm at a loss.
If you can, try the common.lvl change - it's the one from the 1.2 disk version that hasn't been modified and play with the settings and see if you get any different results.

Thank you very much, you put me on the right track!

It really is an issue with my 144 Hz screen. I set the frame rate target to 60 FPS in AMD Radeon settings and now everything works as intended (I'm using FreeSync so my monitor locks itself to 60 Hz automatically in this case).

So in short: High-refresh monitor + high FPS = no crouch.
Nice, I'll have to keep that in my notes for later about the high refresh monitors. Excessive frame rates cause some weird issues in this game.
2004 wasn't quite 2019 :)

Glad that sorted it out for you. The high frame rate already causes a known issue with vehicles flipping and sliding and such, so I'd recommend capping it anyway, and now we know it can cause issues with crouching too.
Only a little bit relevant, but I am really amused when this happens to someone for the first time. I think I specifically took a video one time just to show someone how crazy it gets when 2 or 3 hovering vehicles start spinning uncontrollably. Being inside one can make you sick.
