Here I post some of the informations I have collected over time, which a new player may find useful.

How to play online
After the death of Gamespy, it was very hard to play the multiplayer campaign online. Recently, with a new tool it became much easier. You have to use a VPN-Client like Radmin or Zerotier and additional the SFC Launcher. For just the skirmish mode it's also possible to use Gameranger.

True the topic is the same for every subforum, but the information is different. A new SFC3 player should know the necessary stuff about this game and not Armada 2 ;)

What does the sfc launcher do?

All In One Upgrade Mod3.2 working with GOG SFC 3

Hi all,

Ive managed to get Starfleet Command 3 working with the All In One Upgrade Mod 3.2
Here is how ive gotten it to work.

WHAT YOU NEED

STEPS

1.
Install the Starfleet Command 3 gog game.
After the Install is finished run it once and then exit.

2.
Install the All In One Upgrade Mod 3.2 files.
After the Install is finished try to run it once and then exit. it may not run at all.

3.
Copy all the files from the dgVoodoo folder into your gog folder.
these are;
D3D8.dll
D3D9.dll
D3DImm.dll
DDraw.dll
dgVoodoo.conf
dgVoodooCpl

4.
Run from the SFC.exe in the Install folder instead of the gog launcher shortcut.

5.
Enjoy! hopefully!



Troubleshooting;
1.
16bit colour;
If you get it asking for your windows to be in 16bit colour.

Right click on the SFC.exe and go to properties,
Click on to compatibility,
Under Settings click "Reduced Colour Mode" and set it to "16-bit (65536) colour".
Should play fine now.

2.
Game still wont run.
This is a bit of a stupid one but try deleting it all and starting over with a clean instill of the game and mod.
This game is tricky to get working and something might have just gone wrong so its worth it to try it again from the start.


Notes:
Even with the above fix the game still crashes for me at times and sometimes i just cant get a mission to run without it crashing so in those situations I just reload and try again and if its the same thing then I just go looking for another mission. e.g. I have great trouble getting the Dominion Convoy attack to load for example so I skip those missions.



I have no connection to any mod just a player looking to help.

While the game starts fine and I can play the campaigns, once I enter a mission (both mod missions, and vanilla missions) the game crashes. This is what I get when a simple planetary scan mission crashed the game:

Any ideas?

Light Patrol, Heavy Patrol, Planetary Scan all crash the game. Only the Emergency response mission has worked so far.

I tested it on my system and it was working for me there. What faction where you playing although i doubt it makes a difference.

Also the Renderer can be found in Star Trek SFC3/Components/ModelRendererR.dll
Apparently the original ModelRendererR.dll from the CD is different then the updated gog one but I cant confirm this as its just something I came across when I was trying to get my own game working.

All i can suggest is a clean install and trying it from the start again with the mod and all that. This game is a bit of a nightmare to get working at times. Id also like to point out that i still get the odd crash when loading into a mission but a restart fixes it for me.

The good old PC reboot seems to have fixed most issues for me. STFC3 has always been a bit fickle when it comes to stability. I now only occassionally get a crash. But it is mostly playable.

The All in One mod adds a wonderful number of factions, ships, missions and features. Though I don't agree with all the balance and gameplay tweaks the mod's author made to the game. Thankfully STFC3 lends itself to straightforward modding and tweaking. Part of the fun is changing values to your personal preferences.

Maybe add the reboot as a final step to your tutorial. It seems so logical, yet I completely forgot to do it.

How are you guys making this work? When I try to open the RAR files containing the launcher and/or Vodoo stuff I get a message saying they are corrupted and cannot be oppened

Yes, I was using windows rar, ended downloading winzip and was able to open it, problme is that now everytime I have to fight JemHadar forces the game crashes to desktop
