Same here! Seems to be a direct X issue. Playing with compatibility trobuleshooter but no luck yet.
Works in software mode on Windows 10 for me. Run the graphic configuration and select software.
My WX system plays the game just fine as well
I am unable to play even in software.
Got it to run in Windows 10 by doing the following,... Config EXE set to "Software" and setting the the resolution to the max supported by the software mode, then running SFCEXE in compatibility mode of "WindowsXP Service pack 3"

This works on my all-in-one desktop and my mini-laptop, Desktop 8 gigs of Ram, Intel core I5 @2.5GHZ, built in graphics, touchscreen Windows 10 home
Laptop 2 gigs of Ram Intel Celeron @ 2.16GHZ , built in graphics, touchscreen, Windows 10 Home

good luck!
Where would one find this Config.exe that you reference? I find it nowhere in the folders created by the installl
It's in the game directory.
I can also confirm that running the game in Windows Compatibility mode Win XP SP 3 with async=0 set in the sfc.ini file and running the Video Settings and setting Driver to software works for Win10. There appears to be a graphic issue on the strategic map, I think, but I was able to successfully play missions, at least.
I was able to run in Win10 with no problems. I used Primary Driver set at 1024 for my main display, not software as listed above. Compatibility mode for SFC.exe and the async=0 in the sfc.ini.

Same settings, also works for me on Win 10. Just to be clear, setting the graphics to "Primary Display Driver" works, but setting it to my specific video card's name does not.
I had just finished posting on how I was able to get the game running on 800x600 using software mode when I found this thread.

The suggestions here have been very helpful, as I am now running the game at the highest possible resolution under my primary driver and the game kooks much crisper.

Thanks guys!
i have had these issues with many games from gog and also same issues with some steam games to the point i was getting refunds because they didnt work .... after a couple of weeks digging about on forums these are the fixes i found

step 1. Compatibility mode set to Windows XP (Service Pack 3) for SFC.exe

step 2.[ Mouse] async=0 in the sfc.ini hwblit=1 directly under it

step 3. if you are on windows 7, windows 8/8.1 or windows 10 and this does not work then you must go and eneble your legacy components

1. programs and features
2. turn features on or off
3. when it pops up look for legacy components and make sure it has directplay in the forlder then tick it so its active
this fix will now work for 95% of gogs old school games

i hope this helps .. on some games you may need to download extra sound files also but ppl have posted links to download these aswell

Stupid Question. With these settings is it not possible to get the game to play in full screen or will it always reduce the amount of moniter in use?

Once again sorry if this is a retarded question.

I am interpreting your message to mean that the game leaves black bars on the left and right hand side of the screen, yes? If so, then no - the game was designed for the older 4:3 "square" monitors, and will either appear centered (with those bars on either side) or stretched on the newer 16:9 or 16:10 widescreen monitors. Personal preference, but IMHO the bars are better than the stretching (the stretching makes circles into ovals).
