Same as with the retail release: not out of the menu, but you can edit options.cfg with a text editor and set the Display Height and Display Width values to a custom one. UI stretching beware.
Yeah tried that in the version I had and i think broke it! so had to reset it. Wasa file you could get but never got it working. Thats fine just thought they might have naturally upped the resolution. Might pick up the other star trek titles instead.

I also had some issues with things dropping a lot in fps whenever you move from station to station, is it smoother here?

That would depend on your hardware, I think. The game files are loose instead of having packages (like .zip or .pak) and might take a while to load them one by one (which occurs when warping to a different system, more so when changing episodes), so you might want to install it on an SSD.
Here use this config for 1080p: https://www.moddb.com/games/star-trek-bridge-commander/downloads/widescreen-for-bridge-commander
Hey thats the version of widescreen I used but it never worked properly in the version I have for some reason!

Also might move the game to SSD then and see if it improves the transiations to be more smooth! (Can confirm this fixed the slow transition FPS)

Still working out widescreen!

Did you also copy the Lcars_640.py and WeaponsDisplay.py into the right folders?
I did indeed and every time i launched the game i got a DX error. I copied the folder to another drive and used that so it didnt effect my base game.

Do you delete any files?
No, I just did what I wrote in the read me.

Alternative I can recommend you to try the remastered mod from BC-Central. It doesn't change the gameplay, just improves the graphic and adds some ships.
i dont have a config file but the same file called options?

pringl2: i dont have a config file but the same file called options?
Oops, I named it wrong. Its of course the option.cfg :)
Yeah i tried again there just get the same DX error!
This literaly does not work or better to say i do not see any difference to the editing of the options-file without to trash-files.

In my way i only must change the resolution in options.cfg

the weaponsdisplay.py and the LCARS_640.py doing litteraly nothing. WIth the game. All files for under script ends with .pyc. Maybe the game ignores other container-forms.

Since this is with python it could be possible to transfer this changes to the original files. But not so with this moddb-thing.
I'm really not a modder, but with the cd version of the game, I couldn't get it to run in 1080p withouth the the weaponsdisplay.py and the LCARS_640.py. So, I asked permission I took the files from the remastered mod and uploaded them to moddb.
Editing options.cfg doesn't work for me. Basically when I do this the game doesn't want to launch at all and it gives an access violation error in the event viewer. Even switching back to the default settings doesn't help. The only option to make it working again is to reinstall the whole game.
