Bridge Commander was a rushed game. Extremely rushed, juding from all the information that the community has gathered over the years. That the game turned out to be bloody awesome is frankly a wonder of truely cosmic proportions.
Once upon a time, a healty modding scene existed for BC. Among the most famous modifications were NanoFX2, which included both improved as well as entirely new effects for the space battles, the Kobayashi Maru adding tons of new content (and crashing the game's wonky engine while doing so) and even mod projects that aimed to introduce a more complete ship, explorable in first person (never completed). The one thing all these projects shared is that they basically broke the single player campaign...
A while back, that changed. And with GoG's re-release of this beloved game, the Last Great Star Trek Game (TheGamer) and The Greatest Star Trek Game Ever (PCGamer) can be remastered to both play better, run better and crash less often.
You will need the following:
1.] Access to the game, for instance here from GoG, but the original CDs are supported as well.
2.] The Remastered Mod, be certain to also download the latest patch. This is your basic happiness package.

Alternative download locations for all of these exist on Nexus Mods and GameFront.
In any case, yes, you will actually need to read those instructions and follow them. Make it so!
