TheBricktop: Is there any way to mod this game to be less clunky?
Just bought it and played the tutorial and was also wondering this! ´Clunky´ is exactly it. But why? Is it the movement speed? Cursor speed? General UI?
For those playing on widescreen monitors, the game as set up by GOG stretches the original graphics to fit those screens, making everyone and everything a bit wider than usual than its apparently hardcoded 640x480 visuals. I find the game to ´feel´ a bit better when changing DirectX settings to ´Integer scaling´ rather than ´Fit to Screen´.
Next to the dxcfg.ini for graphical settings, there´s also an AwayTeam.cfg in the game folder that can be edited with any simple text editor (e.g. notepad). You can set scroll speed higher there but it can also be done in the options menu in-game. I recommend setting it to 650 rather than 450. Obviously, set this to your own taste. But 650 feels more modern.
Playing around with Screen Width and Height in the config file did not do much for me (you can get a much better resolution but it stays limited to a 640x480 window area and you soon end up with overlapping in-game display windows and/or cursor ghosts). I also found the default gamma setting a bit too high so I put it at .9 rather than 1.
My settings (recommended if you are looking to de-stretch the graphics and make everything feel a bit smoother)±
