Hello,

what is the technical status of the Armada GOG releases? What resolution are they able to run under? Any issues?

Thanks a lot.

They're running under the same resolutions as they did back in the day.

However, you have the option of using dxcfg.exe from the game directory to force a different resolution, and Armada 1 also has the fan-made patch 1.3 you can try for proper widescreen: http://armadafiles.com/files/armada/mods/patches/star-trek-armada-patch-1-3-project/details
I just bought it, installed it, saw the dx wrapper settings for the game, did that for max aa and af as you do then launched game, well it doesnt show the game except a tiny bit on the top left of screen, tried diff options but nope it isnt working at 1440p monitor.

Might need a refund, this should have worked and i aint doing hotfixes that people might suggest later, i could do it myself probs but i cba and want a working product.

Left a review saying all this so ppl are warned.

Dissapointed.

The main menu is of a static resolution, and if you disabled aspect ratio correction, it won't be scaled to fit your screen.

Your expectations for an as-is closed-source game release are misguided tbh
Ok i got the screen working, i had to go to dx wrappers settings in display mode you need to "set by application" and it shows it normally.

Dont think i want the game if its low res tho, the UI is too big and everything looks well zoomed in tbh, i know it kinda looked like that in the old days but on my monitor it doesnt look natural. I fear if i played it this way my eyes would strain.

I would have edited my review to say how to get the game to show properly but i dont think i can ah well.

Oh and the audio, when you click on a ship it says something, theres a bit of a hiss/crackle just before and after what they say, i tried switching from 8 to 4 channels and from stereo to mono, nothing helped tho.

Edit - The audio is pretty bad in other places like the cinematic intro of premonitions.

Mouse was slow btw ingame, wonder if i have to find a mouse sensitivity slider or something as doesnt look accelerated to me.

Btw on the main menu it says its 1.2 version.

All of these are sadly old known bugs - the game's sound engine was made in the time when the tech and standards were changing rapidly. Even as early as Windows XP, you'd get skipping audio bites because the game hates hardware audio acceleration. I'm more surprised this does not occur on Windows Vista through 10, to be honest, so occasional quiet crackles are more than a good trade-off considering what could've been.

Mouse sluggishness is also something that's existed for a long while, not sure what's causing it.

Thanks for the suggestion, the 1.3 patch works really well with the game.

Works decently without it too, but having the option to go to widescreen is nice.

I've done the following to get it to run.

Use the DX configuration tool.

1. Instal the 1.3 patch
2.Set display mode to whatever your native desktop resolution is.
3.Set presentation to windowed.

This gets you a borderless window at your native resolution.

4. Set the in game resolution to you native resolution.
5. Set mouse scroll speed to max.

It works without the 1.3 patch as well, but then your max resolution is 1600 x 1200.

I had a couple of times when the resolution in the mission/skirmish would reset to 640 x 480. Setting it back to native there works well.
Does 1.3 actually add legit widescreen or is it kind of stretched?

It adds the widescreen options in the settings menu. The main game window is properly widescreen'd but the bottom UI is stretched (not that it looked sharp in 4:3 anyway)
Hey what I'm more interested in is how the game play behaves. Did they manage to fix the lags and shutters with their DX wrapper? I still own the original CD Version and for me it never worked as charming with the fan made wrappers. When ever you had explosions and large fleet battles going the game turned into a lag fest.

How does it behave now regarding that?

If you mean the mouse command sluggishness, sadly that's still there. It's most likely elsewhere in the game logic. The initial 2-3 seconds of lag in LAN are still there but that's ancient netcode for ya. As for explosions, I've never in the past 18 years had a configuration where that was not a problem ^_^"

What is improved compared to prior renderers is that whatever resolution you set in dxcfg.exe (except the Set by Application option, of course), it sticks for all modes of the executable, meaning it won't resize your entire monitor's resolution every time it goes to the menu or tries to play the intro. Even if you delete/rename the STIntro.bik file to skip the intro, the launching is blazing-fast because it no longer wastes time on resizing.
Ok sounds good. Thank you for that I will try it. If I'm unsatisfied I can always refund after all.
You are my new best friend.

I could not get this to work until I read your instructions about working the DX Tool and lowering my desktop res sans the patch. While I had done each of those things... you need to do them both :D THANK YOU. Works like a charm now.

If i do this.

2.Set display mode to whatever your native desktop resolution is.
3.Set presentation to windowed.

The game starts with most of it cut off except the top left corner of the game, rest is black screen, as i said before. Only way to avoid that for me on a 1440p mon at 75hz is to set by app, setting. The others just dont work for me. Tried every which way to go on the settings.

Oh and for some reason i get lines on cutscenes especially during bridge and viewscreen bits, anyone else get this? Never remembering it happening last time i played way back early 2000s lol.
Oh the occasional black lines were even a thing on the CD version during the cutscenes. While somewhat annoying they didn't do much harm.
