Is there any way to skip combat or otherwise cheat it?
if you're as stupid as me as a child. yes, use the starmap to warp to the correct planets instead of warping wherever you want and fight at worse 1:4

its in your games folder or/and you can download it as "bonus"

thats some kind of copy protection.

otherwise, i dont think so, no.

Yes there is. Everytime you bring up Scotty's menu your weapons recharge. So all you need to do is get your target infront of you, fire, menu, fire, menu and so on. It's spamming, cheating but it works!
that tactic works really great, couldnt even finish the first battle using it.

it's the only way I could get past the final boss.
well, i guess you need some "training" for this tactics to actually work.

I managed every battle without cheating, so it's not so bad lol.
I have trouble even with the tutorial battle, somehow I'm unable to get the other ship in front of me. I look at the radar and try to turn his way, but i rarely manage to actually get it on screen. Is there anything i'm missing. Also why do the systems on the map have no names? I tried about 10 systems but they were all off course and I was blasted to hell.

Put the brakes on when you turn after a ship or it's almost impossible to keep them in front of you
And you need to use the map from the manuals

But that means constant alt-tab or have to print it out. Oh well, I will try the battle one more time at some point. But if that's just the tutorial battle, on easy, I'm afraid this game is to difficult for me.
