During some convalescent time, I decided to fire up SCII and attack a homeworld just to see if its entire defense fleet could be defeated. Please note I am ***NOT*** asking how to defeat any particular faction. I have beaten the game, so this is not about that. It was just a silly time-killer challenge.

When I went to the homeworld, the "ENCOUNTER AT" screen showed roughly 50 ships. I chose "Attack", and destroyed well more than 50 consecutive ships, maybe nearly 100, but the fights kept coming.

Have I missed any official reference anywhere that states specifically whether a homeworld's fleet can be defeated in battle? I won't waste any more time attempting this, I'm just curious about whether it was designed to be impossible. Repeat: In battle. Conventionally. Not via storyline, not via devices, not via divine messages, etc, just simply straight-up battle.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Homeworlds are defended by an infinite number of ships in Star Control II.
