The games have already been updated a couple of months ago that include the Ukrainian language.

When I bought them few years back, I installed patches fine without registry editing.

But I'm glad it's in the GOG versions now.

I installed Shadow of Chernobyl and then the Ukrainian localization from Gamefront, but I get crashes

OK I figured it out. For SOC you do the following:
- install the game
- download the localization extra
- create a directory called Ua in Localization
- paste the extra contents in there.
- Finally you have to open the Registry editor for Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\GSC Game World\STALKER-SHOC and change the InstallLang to Ua
